TT this morning

1. The golf coach left because Moos promised him a new facility to get him here...and that wasn't happening in the next 3-4 years. Sounds like a new aquatics center passed it up in terms of priority.
2. Moos did indeed put out feelers for the Pac-12 commissioner job...much like he did for the Nebraska job as soon as Eichorst was fired. He was quickly declined.
3. Don't be surprised if the BIG conference issues a mandatory vaccine policy for conference athletes.
4. Bill Busch needs to be recruiting coordinator. Part of the reason the 2022 class is looking grim is because Held, Dillon, and Mossbrucker are always a few steps behind other programs. In spite of COVID, we already had enough pre-established relationships that we pieced together a decent 2021 class, but now it's really hitting us in 2022. Busch would work wonders for our recruiting operation.

I'm sure I've got more, but I'll need to go through all my texts.
I think Busch definitely knew he had a legit shot at a full time coaching opportunity next year. Just a matter of which coach is the weak link at the end of the year

I mean I don't see a defensive coach leaving because he is a weak link. I frankly hope we keep the defensive staff together as long as possible. Fisher seems most likely to leave but for good reasons not bad.

So do you fire Held, demote/fire/retire Mario, hire a better RB coach, make Busch special teams and recruiting bad ass?

Yes.

Two weeks now without anything from @kenyanfeline via waterboy. Feeling parched here.
Waterboy is only with the team during active periods (Spring ball, fall camp, in-season), so I really don’t have much. He does some odds and ends equipment stuff in the offseason is really all. The last nugs were the day before the spring game and there wasn’t really much to report on after that, especially since you all watched the same thing.

At some point I’ll put something together about his opinions on 3-4 deep at each position post-spring, but I haven’t had much time lately.

Appreciate the feedback. I can now rest much easier knowing that I have to wait until fall for more real solid information from you. Thanks for the contributions throughout spring.

I’m indifferent about Held personally. I think my opinion will change though based on the RBs we trot out there this year. In saying that, is there a scenario in which Busch gets a full time gig here, Ron Brown gets named RB coach, and Mario becomes an analyst? Who then coaches QBs mainly?

If the Big 10 requires athletes to get vaccinated, do they then require coaches to get vaccinated? How does big dog Conservative Frost feel about that/handle that?

Frost, Lubbick and Mario.

I don't like how Frost assembled his offensive staff.

My ideal way to structure it would be....

OC/QB
RB
WR
TE/OL
OL

DC/LB (for a 3-4)
DL
LB
DB

Special teams

Yep. So you’re saying you would have 1 coach do TE/OL but main focus on TE, and then 1 coach do OLine altogether?

Basically what Bo had with Garrison and Cotton. IIRC Cotton coached OT/TEs and Garrison coached OG/Cs.

My thought process is OL has so many bodies you need to develop that you need to have more than just 1 coach. Does it make sense to have 1 coach coach TEs (1 spot) and 1 coach coach OL (5 spots)?

Your OC is working very closely with your QB already.

I really hope if we’re replacing coaches we don’t go back to Ron Brown yet again. There are other good coaches out in the world, it’s time to move on from him.

In all due respect as long as Frost is around I think we know where he’ll most likely go. Buuuuuttttt for the sake of conversation, who would you go with and what’s their background? Admittedly, I know very few running back coaches in CFB

Proximity to home and playing time
Agreed. If we are still considered a “blue blood” by people outside the state, we are the closest one to him. Pair that with the fact that we are currently down and I can see the draw.

Come here and be one of, if not the best athlete on the team from the start, have a great chance to start for 3-4 years, be a player that would almost certainly be a fan favorite, etc.

Or go to Clemson, scratch and claw to have a chance to play. If it pans out there, he could end up with multiple rings and a high draft pick if he pans out.

It just depends what his priorities are.

The coach's name rhymes with Frost

If Frost continues on his current path and gets fired in 1-2 years and we cannot find a TOP replacement put Billy Busch in charge to flip it quick with some SEC flavor and get a couple 7-9 win seasons and top recruits.

Although in 1-2 years if Frost is fired and we do strike out on top coaching candidates either or both Lane Kiffin (Lincoln’s golden child) and Zac Taylor should be available to come home.
