The good news is we have the resources to bring in any coach Rhule can convince as far as pay. I like White but he’s trying to climb to a HC role so it was only a matter of time. Knighton was a good coach but again we have the resources to pay to bring in someone better. I’m excited to see how cut throat Rhule will be bringing in top notch assistants.

Yeah that's how I'll decide to view it too. A shakeup throughout the staff CAN be healthy for a team stuck in the mud, and we're likely looking at a pretty big shakeup on O and D. First staff hirings for a new coach are a little bit of a crapshoot because you have to cobble people together on a really short timeline, PLUS Rhule was out of CFB for 3 years or whatever it was. Two seasons is reasonable to see how that group can do together, this is a good time to re-evaluate and make different decisions with a lot more knowledge and experience to go off of.

Assuming Holgerson stays, that move was already genius and impressive. Let's hope Rhule takes this as an opportunity to upgrade across the board.

Is Knighton actually good, or is it just that he has good players at the position? We will probably never know.

I think people are forgetting that a lot of fans saw Knighton as a reach.

Hopefully Rhule can channel his inner Knighton-hiring smart guy and not his inner Satterfield-hiring dolt.
Well, I thought there was talk about Pot Roast getting interest for a NFL gig. It would be funny for Knighton to leave for FSU but ultimately end up coaching in the NFL somewhere next year.

I do wonder if all this doesn’t make Rhule “get it” that the way he did things before isn’t going to be able to just be copied/pasted here this time around

CFB is vastly different today than in 2019. There is no sense of loyalty by anyone involved, the players, coaches and administrators all can (and do) leave on a whim. What has Rhule’s loyalty gotten him so far? He hired his buddy at OC and produced two sub-90th ranked offenses, took a chance on T Knighton who is one of “his” guys who is bailing and then micro-managed White out of town. Not a whole lot of results for the “loyalty” or “faith” he’s shown those guys but if you look around at the way things work, expecting anything different with the results we’ve had is tomfoolery

The Dana hire inspires confidence in me but replacing Tony will really show me whether or not Rhule has the stones to lead this program to where we all want it to go. Simply promoting Butler or Dvoracek because they’re on staff already isn’t good enough. There needs to be a national search that results in a proven coordinator hire, preferably someone currently in college as either a DC or HC.

We’re about to see what our admin and donors are made of too. Between the revenue sharing for the AD, new stadium money asks, NIL asks for 1890 and now new staff changes, there is a LOT of money needed to get this thing going in the right direction. I would absolutely prioritize the NIL component and staff pool over everything else - the revenue share will essentially wash out across the B1G and the stadium $ isn’t a priority to me, don’t care if I get a place to put my $14 Busch Lite if we are 3-9 - we need PLAYERS and GREAT COACHES to be able to attract, retain and develop talent and ultimately win games.

Enormous offseason ahead. I haven’t even mentioned pairing down to 105 and running existing guys off yet. It’s going to be a hell of a month.

Don’t really view this as bad.
We need a lot of changes on the roster and defense is in a better spot than the offense.
Frees up money to update that side with holgs and whoever he brings.
Go get a good dc for a milly and a new dline coach.

This may so sound odd but I think Dannon helps push Rhule to bring in top notch assistants vs younger cutting their teeth assistants. Also if you do pull a big time DC allowing them the ability to bring in some of there people makes sense vs what Rhule forced on White.
