Thoughts on Volleyball Day in Nebraska?

I get that it's easier and brings more money to all of the Regent schools, but how the FUCK is this not against Pickle Smoochers? A game of this magnitude should be against the best local competition you can get.

Get UNO vs UNI

Wayne State vs UNK is a fantastic matchup and will still the show I'd assume.

To me- it would be great to have this become an annual event with all of the 4 year school teams in the state with volleyball programs playing/participating over a two or three year period:

Annual Participants:

D1: UNO, UNL, Pickle Smoochers

Rotating Participants:

D2: Wayne State, Chadron State, UNK
D3: Nebraska Wesleyan
NAIA: Bellevue, College of St Mary, Doane, Hastings, Concordia, Midland, Peru State, York

Start games at like 12:00pm and let them run all day. Its not that crazy to do:

12:00pm: Peru State v Doane
2:00pm: Nebraska Wesleyan v Bellevue
4:00pm: Chadron State v UNK
6:00pm: Pickle Smoochers v Wayne State
8:00pm: Nebraska v UNO

Throw it on BTN like this year’s event and let it run. Would be awesome.

Because it’s about notoriety. You’re not trying to give a rival private school any other advantage with recruiting or spotlight. It’s about UNL, not pickle smothers and UNL.

Sharp and Hanley have a segment on this morning’s show titled “Is tonight the most important match in Nebraska Volleyball history?”

The hype is out of control.

My daughter is less than a week old and I want to take her. I used to be an alpha, but I've became such a pussy in 6 days. This is huge for women's sports.

Potentially breaking a world record attendance record for women's sports is incredible, especially for a state with a population under 2 million people. The event is huge, the game not so much.

It gives the university a chance to show off their current top program in record breaking fashion. It gives fuel to young kids that have grown up watching the volleyball team play at a championship level. Nebraska is a great volleyball state and they're going to put on the biggest volleyball event of all time. I think it's awesome. This event is what some envisioned events like Nebraska playing in Ireland or some other neutral field sponsored event to be.

Seriously though, I think it's great for NU and the sport and will also give additional credence to our fan base being the greatest in college sports. This sets us apart, just like the sellout streak, whether you believe it is manufactured or not.

This will be an outstanding recruiting moment that will trail for a decade with young VB players everywhere. It will also be a tremendous moment for each of the players, great experience to have a Memorial Stadium Tunnel Walk.

There are people that will over-value this moment, some here that will under-value it. This will be a hell of a thing, and if you can be on Sportcenter and National news with something positive like this - well, that is great for the program, the University, and the state.

There will be people around the world that will gawk at this and wonder what the hell is going on there in Lincoln. And that is a wonderful thing.

I'm thinking of the positive impact on NE H.S. sports. An event like this can only reinforce the idea that NE is a volleyball state, and it's gotta get high school kids stoked to go out for sports when they see the type of support given for things other than football. Little boys idolize the football team in uniforms playing on T.V. with 90,000 people cheering. (I get that V.B. is broadcast too) This will give kids another team to idolize.

It's a nice gimmick to have the national media pretend to give a shit about Nebraska on a Wednesday in August so yolo

Will be interesting to see if national folks with high follower count start commenting on it. I saw where an MLB writer w 366k followers commented on it.

The name of the game now is to do something that is trend-worthy on social media. It's a pretty light sports night so Nebraska might have a chance to get some good buzz/attention tonight on social media.

The one downside is Messi plays tonight and when he scores or gets an assist that gets retweeted 5bn times across the world and is the #1 trending topic. But if he doesn't do anything, I can see the VB game/crowd/images being a major trending topic. There's nothing else going on in sports tonight and smartly they did this before CFB season.

Stomping their asses in front of the largest women’s athletic event crowd of all time still gives us the advantage. Going to the wire with them, they can’t host this event so still our advantage. There’s not a volleyball player in the world that, having a commitable offer from both, would choose Pickle Smoochers over nebraskas

If you have an event this large, your lineup should match.

Honestly, I don’t think you want to play anyone good where there is a chance of losing outdoors. You don’t want to take the chance of whether or wind playing a factor in a high-stakes game.

This is a spectacle, an exhibition. You want the actual important games to be played in normal conditions indoors.
