Thought for midseason: Satterfield ain’t it (Edit: yes, he was the issue)

I’m not saying he’s horrible in play calling, but seriously, why can’t we ever get any points in the 2nd half?! It almost cost us this game.

Eventually, he and Foley are going to cost us games and someone will have to ask Rhule what’s going on.
I think we have some nice play designs, we run good stuff. But man, some of the sequencing is flat awful.

We ran some buck sweep yesterday. Both popped for 8+ yards. The second one called would have been a house call if the RB hesitated and let the 2nd puller fit up on the LB. End of game...did we come back to it? Nah. We ran power pretty good the whole game. End of game...did we come back to it? Nah. We beat our heads into the ground running a lot of Duo...and get 2 yards. And we basically go into an R2P2 play calling mindset in the 2nd half. I will say, you could see an effort to help Raiola out throwing into the wind by running several screen.

Foley...woof. Buttgers knew all week they were blocking the first punt. Can we field a damn punt so it doesn't roll down to the one or two yard line.

I’m not a Satt fanboy, but I honestly don’t understand these takes. Which games have we lost because of Satt?

2023 - Our QBs were hot burning trash. Worst QB play Nebraska has ever had. There are for sure some individual calls you can question, but the man had two hands tied behind his back, his leg cutoff, and one eye gouged out.

2024 - Offense has been fine. A couple South Carolina fans bitched about him and fans just decided Satt was the scapegoat when Rhule was hired.

Second half of games this year we have struggled big time on O. The play calling seems disjointed, and without any real structured strategy. I think he tries to outsmart himself at times, rather than taking what’s working

He showed that reverse to Barney that we used a lot last week and then threw the screen to Rhamir that went down to the 8 yard line. That was stellar.

Bonner’s TD was incredibly called.
Both of these plays were really well designed. I like the creativty Satt has shown this year. Maybe Glenn Thomas is helping with this.

I have really no problem with the play calling and offense design this year. Our struggle contines to be running the ball with the straight handoff game when the other teams knows that's what we're going to do, like when protecting a lead in second halves.

All of our games I always sleuth over to the other teams board at halftime and see what they’re saying. Every game I’ve seen, “Why is their playcalling so much better than ours?”

Playcalling has been solid this year, yesterday Dylan was off and it seemed like they were pushing him to play through it.

I have no doubt that this offense is going to be top 20-25 range with a sophomore Dylan.

Mind bottling that we're defending mediocre although I do suppose just not being flat out horrible is a step in the right direction.

Satt definitely is overpaid for what he seems to bring to the table. He hasn't done a bad job, but hasn't been good either. Need to aim higher at OC if we want to be anything better than just an okay team.

That being said, there's quite a few people that should be upgraded before we worry about OC. Foley and the RB coach gotta go. Disturbing that our OL is still ass too.

Is he worth what he is getting paid? He isn’t a top OC. He is average. His career numbers show it. Time will tell in the end. Either way our biggest issue today is special teams. That facet of the game is totally unacceptable. It will cost us games in the end.

I’d agree he’s not worth top ten money and I’d emphatically agree. I would be with you if you said I wish we’d have known we’d pay top 10 money for an OC and hired a top 10 OC.

I wouldn’t say he’s dead weight.

So half way point of the season, we’re 5-1 and we’re firing Special Teams Coach now and the OC at the end of the year?

Smells a little tatery in here
Oh no, we're critical of an OC who can't figure out how to design an offense and make adjustments that allow the best players to score points in two full halfs during a game. Yes, that's very tatery.

My biggest gripe with the offense is that we seemingly don't have an easy pass play that we can call any time to big bodied Banks for 5 or 6 yards. I'm no offensive genius but seems to me that his size says he can get that done.

Can anybody explain why we can't? Cockeye with their putrid offenses of the past could always hit the TE for a short to medium gain about 5-6 times a game. They understood that those plays turned 1st & 10 into 2nd & 4.

Offense is stuck? Call the safety blanket play. Against Rutgers I think they tried a few times with Fidone and they didn't execute.

I feel like they did this at a pretty good clip in every game before Rutgers, no?
