Maybe it's already done and he is just waiting right know to announce it.

The only thing that doesn't fit - assuming this would be a done deal - is that it is not announced. This guy is #3 in the ST leadership chain. Normally a team wouldn't care if someone at that level was announced before their departure. It's more common that full-blown assistant coaches are kept quiet until the season is over.

Agree, however I could see Rhule saying “go get your ring and then join us.”

It’s not a big deal to not have him named. It’s not like you’re counting on him to come in and shore up recruits or teach technique and scheme in January. There’s time.

They announce the special teams coach on Friday so that Rhule can talk about it at his scheduled Saturday press conference. Or maybe he just announces the hire at his press conference. Either way they generate some headlines that crowd out the "there won't be a spring game" storyline from the week.

We have? I do not recall this.
I do remember one time when Rhule was annoyed when Eckler jumped on his back after that kick return, but I didn't extrapolate that to them not getting along.
