Special teams and turnovers

Average starting field position against MSU was the 46.5 yard line.

4 out of our first 5 drives started in their territory and overall 7/13 drives started on the MSU side.

Not sure what happened offensively that first half, fans can chalk it up to Murphys law and are glad it sort of corrected itself in the 2nd half. Either way, we haven’t seen an average starting field position like that since I’ve been tracking it. Credit to special teams and turnovers.

The other once in a lifetime stat from this game that shows the improvement in specials and turnover is 6.8yards/pt. That number would make Cockeye blush.

I think we’re top 10 in the country in yards per point this year at 10.6, which to me is one of the best identifiers of an efficient, complimentary team. Lots of credit to Ekeler, Barney, forcing turnovers, and not turning it over (both Dylan and the running backs).

Can we talk about how incredible it was that Cav had Barney to return things and put the return game he did on the field?

I will also say - we NEEDED a game like this also. Shit show followed by a 4th quarter close out against a B1G opponent.

There’s things to fix. But damn it this team ain’t turtling at crunch time anymore

Almost every good team has to survive a game or two where they play like steaming dog shit for most of 3 quarters and then figure out a way to step it up and win it in the 4th. IDK how good we are, but that’s the type of win every good team needs to work through at some point in the season.

Honestly surprised no one’s bitching about the failed fake punt considering how RRS this place has been lately.
If MSU hadn't been watching like a hawk for a fake it would have worked. The only gripe I have is with the wind like it was a fake was pretty obvious. At the moment I thought it was stupid but on reflection I can understand why it was called.

Absolute special teams domination and +2 in turnovers allowed Nebraska to win a game by double digits that they would've lost by 10 points any of the last 8 seasons.
Related ask of @HuskerGarrett . You have the 5 Likes reaction, and you have the Fully Husked reaction, but when I want one that sums both of those up this board falls short. We need a Chili Dog reaction for when something is worth 5 likes and gets my own sausage hard

The guy that was weakly blocked in the back, directly next to the runner, shouldn’t have been called for it, 🤷🏻‍♂️😂
No, it was weak because some penalties were called and some were not. Either you let the players play to a certain extent or call everything, like the facemask or the several holdings.
