Agree here. I like Cooper and his recruiting, but is he that good at coaching? Barthel is coming from Go5. Whether I agree or not with peoples take on Satterfield, Gamecock fans being happy he's gone doesn't make me feel great. Really besides Rhule, White, and maybe Foley I have concerns about all of them.

The analytics actually were very kind to Barthel and I think he was soon going to get a P5 job. I have very few concerns with him. But other than White, Foley, and maybe Barthel there are going to be some rough patches….

But what if he was saying good things about us?

Not directed at you, but don't feel like making two separate posts...

I heard that podcast so spent a couple nights watching old Temple games. I know @slattimer has pointed out he feels the offense will be similar to what we saw at Baylor, but the spring game reminded me of what I saw Temple do while Rhule was there and they came into Navy Marine Corp Memorial. And, Rhule's offensive coaches that followed him to Carolina were calling plays for Rhule at Baylor.

What was interesting was that in year 1, they ran a no huddle spread. In year 3, they switched to a huddle and ran a lot under center. They still had 5 wide a handful of times in the game, but it felt more like our spring game. They had an awesome running back that year. And that year Satt switched from OC/QB to OC/RB, so hopefully that was an indication of him applying attention to that position. If you recall, their QB was a day 1 starter as a freshman and was pretty good by year 3 and 4. Satt left Temple before Rhule went over to Baylor to take the Tennessee Tech HC job, and got fired after two years.

I was hoping to see a more effective run game. The OL stunk at OZ. The pass game was reliant upon the play action. In other words, a Big Ten offense.

I need to go back and watch some USC games, other than the Clemson and Tennessee games, and see what they did. I don't recall USC looking like Temple of 2015.
I wouldn't give a shit if he said good things to reply to the general comment.

Any type of inefficient play calling when the QB is known to be extremely limited always prompts a chicken or the egg question for me. I watched quite a few K State games.this year where they absolutely refused to push the ball down field with noted YOLO bomber Adrian Martinez under center and then they get a QB who is worth a shit with Big Willy Will and it looks like a totally different offense.

I'm certain that Satterfield has flaws but I'm willing to trust Rhule on this.

On another note, I get slightly annoyed by South Carolina fans because they really act like they are a program that's right up there with Bama, UGA, Ohio State... but in reality they're miles away. Yet they like to puff their chests out and go "this ______ production won't cut it at a blue blood like South Carolina." Like, GMAFB.

South Carolina really rides the SEC FB coattails just like Mizzou, Vandy and Kentucky.

I know that doesn't mean they're are necessarily wrong about Satterfield, it just feels like SC really want to speak their program into existence. Like, you're not making 'fetch' happen, no matter how hard you try.

I was going to say White is the one coach I am excited about.

EJ I thought was a good hire.

Foley seems to be a good hire based on my research.

I was told Satterfield was a good coach but I'm in the wait and see mode.

of all the P5 schools, South Carolina fans might be in the biggest denial regarding their program's place in college football.

Offense was way too wordy and complicated.

It was good Satterfield was let go. Rumors were that he wasn’t calling the offense vs Tennessee and Clemson.

Rattler led the nation in passes behind the LOS (inefficient)

Satterfield tried to sell it as an offense that gets you pro ready (sounds familiar).

Elliott called the offense poorly designed and said “sorry Nebraska fans” at the end.

Elliott has been way down on the Satterfield hire since Rhule was hired. In a different podcast he Has called it a buddy hire and not a “serious hire” if you’re trying to recruit big time QBs.
The question I would have if Sat wasn’t calling the offense at the end is, why not hire the guy who supposedly was? Obviously Rattler (and the entire offense) played better, and there would be continuity for the offense to not have to completely change everything.

I realize you could say that the coach who supposedly called the plays wasn’t “qualified”, but at the same time that coach would’ve beaten (at the time) back-to-back top 10 teams. And then to further that, before their bowl game, Beamer wouldn’t tell the media who would be calling the offense and even said he would potentially do it. Seems odd to not announce who may be calling the plays if they were already doing it during those impressive wins.

The part about the play calls being complicated makes the QB situation make more sense. Iirc Kaelin is supposed to be pretty smart, and Sims was able to get into Georgia Tech, which is not easy

@BIG TONE SOPRANO would like a word with you.

It helps to talk with confidence, and to hire a recruiter HC.

South Carolina's recruiting class of 21 was ranked 72nd, 22 was ranked 28th, the 23 class was ranked 16th, the class of 24 is currently ranked 6th., between Michigan and Florida St.

Jesus we're 3 months from the first game and people are already out on some assistants? Donnie, sure I can see it...but the rest have a clean slate IYAM. People were freaking out about McGuire when he was hired, and now he's a whiz-kid and a dawg on the recruiting trail. This fanbase is bi-polar.

do people forget how close we were to getting Peetz?
the B1G is riddled with top defenses. I hope Satt can out scheme them but I'm suspect

A little late to the party, but let's face it, Rhule was looking for certain characteristics in his coaches. He didn't go out and get the best offensive and defensive coaches, but certain traits in those coaches that he can tutor and get the most of them.

In his previous stops at Temple and Baylor, he brought in coaches that had very little experience at the P5 or any college level and then turned them into some of the most respected coaches as of this last year.

He brought in Satterfield because I am sure that Satterfield, which not the best OC, had characteristics that Rhule can coach up and turn into a good OC/play caller.
