Starts at 25:00 into the podcast. Listen to the 247 South Carolina guy and bud Elliott talk about Satterfield.

By far my number 1 concern.

Bud Elliott “there’s not an offense in the country that benefits more from a coaching change than South Carolina”. Ouch
What was his reasoning for that? I couldn't get the pod to play, got anymore notes you can share?

Bud may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he can grill some burgers and dogs!

Offense was way too wordy and complicated.

It was good Satterfield was let go. Rumors were that he wasn’t calling the offense vs Tennessee and Clemson.

Rattler led the nation in passes behind the LOS (inefficient)

Satterfield tried to sell it as an offense that gets you pro ready (sounds familiar).

Elliott called the offense poorly designed and said “sorry Nebraska fans” at the end.

Elliott has been way down on the Satterfield hire since Rhule was hired. In a different podcast he Has called it a buddy hire and not a “serious hire” if you’re trying to recruit big time QBs.

He’s probably the most anti-Sat guy I’ve heard. I think he’s pretty insightful so I’m not calling bullshit per se. I do think during their Raiola commitment podcast, the other guys made some really good counter points regarding who he was coaching during his coaching history and what they were capable of, and what Rattler was doing even under QB guru Lincoln Riley.

They reference again how complex his play calling is and how wordy it can be. That could be a real concern in year one as players are getting acclimated. Time will tell but my hope is that we don’t need to light up the score board to win. I’d be happy with some boring defensive wins.

I don’t care if we win them all by one point. Grind them into dust B1G style if we have to, but just win, baby. Just win.

I wouldn't call it a buddy hire - it is more that Rhule hired someone he knew would do what he wanted they way he wanted it. I don't even think you can call is Satterfield's offense - it is just as much Rhule's with a few things Satterfield added when he went to South Carolina.

If you're concerned, it's really a concern about Rhule. But the two of them have functioned well together in the past. I don't understand why South Carolina last year suggests Rhule should have hired someone else and taken the risk the new guy wouldn't be all in with his rebuild plan.

Very few offensive coordinators can transfer success from place to place. Most need the stars to align with the right head coach, right culture, right QB, right skill guys, right OL, and the right timing i.e., the right fit.

Satterfield is clearly not a transcendent OC, and I don't think he's the most talented OC we could've gotten, but I have to believe Rhule believes he's the right fit.

Satterfield wasn't my top choice for OC. But South Carolina put up some points last year...especially by the end of the year.

I've spent the last several months thinking Bud Elliot was some kind of former coach who was now weighing in on the goings on of college football but now I see he's a dude who couldn't hack it for even 6 months as an attorney and became a ReCrUiTiNg AnAlYsT, sooooo

For what it's worth, he was telling us how one of the reasons they scored so much on one of those teams is because they identified a terrible corner and he told the players to let him know when he was in. He said "the kids almost gave it away coming up to me to let me know so I would call the plays to go after him."

So I don't believe that one, or he's a massive liar.

Honestly, it’s fair to have concerns about Rhule’s entire staff. This is an extremely green staff all the way around that will be learning on the job in a conference no kind to new comers. No way around it.
Agree here. I like Cooper and his recruiting, but is he that good at coaching? Barthel is coming from Go5. Whether I agree or not with peoples take on Satterfield, Gamecock fans being happy he's gone doesn't make me feel great. Really besides Rhule, White, and maybe Foley I have concerns about all of them.

But what if he was saying good things about us?

Not directed at you, but don't feel like making two separate posts...

I heard that podcast so spent a couple nights watching old Temple games. I know @slattimer has pointed out he feels the offense will be similar to what we saw at Baylor, but the spring game reminded me of what I saw Temple do while Rhule was there and they came into Navy Marine Corp Memorial. And, Rhule's offensive coaches that followed him to Carolina were calling plays for Rhule at Baylor.

What was interesting was that in year 1, they ran a no huddle spread. In year 3, they switched to a huddle and ran a lot under center. They still had 5 wide a handful of times in the game, but it felt more like our spring game. They had an awesome running back that year. And that year Satt switched from OC/QB to OC/RB, so hopefully that was an indication of him applying attention to that position. If you recall, their QB was a day 1 starter as a freshman and was pretty good by year 3 and 4. Satt left Temple before Rhule went over to Baylor to take the Tennessee Tech HC job, and got fired after two years.

I was hoping to see a more effective run game. The OL stunk at OZ. The pass game was reliant upon the play action. In other words, a Big Ten offense.

I need to go back and watch some USC games, other than the Clemson and Tennessee games, and see what they did. I don't recall USC looking like Temple of 2015.
