Outdoors thread

It seems to be a combination of things:

1. Commercial fishing practices

2. Over abundance of pink salmon are outcompeting them on food in the ocean.

3.headwaters becoming too warm at times during the summer.

Seals and sea lion populations have exploded.

Predatory birds not managed and populations exploding.

Invasive fish (walleye, etc.) Chowing down on the fry.

and kill nets stretched across rivers....

our number one issue is trawlers and accidentally bycatch but that’s been an issue for years with no action being done. It’s just destroys the ecosystem.

The trawlers day is coming and maybe soon.

They have been getting the shit kicked out of them for thier halibut by catch and now salmon has finally been brought into it.

The halibut kill (by catch) is more than like 100% of our (WA) annual halibut quota.

All for fish sticks and shit.

this is really sad, the North Rim Lodge was incredible. iirc it was built around 1920 and still had all the original stonework. The lodge and cabins at the north rim were like getting into a time capsule

There are all kinds of fires up there every summer whipper snapper. It's rural, super remote, lots of kindling laying around and no fire hydrants like you city stickers are used to.

We often get smoked out by the fires on Vancouver Is. It's scares the kalitards that are invading us.

Almost all are started from lightning strikes.

Fishing has been pretty good. Currently chewing some Elk pepperoni w/cheese sticks! About to make a fire... let's see if ol @Jim14510
Can manage to git his ass here to enjoy an evening at the old growth cedar stump cabin....?

I had a fresh Elk with cheese summer sausage put in his cabin fridge before he showed up. He is picking at it.... ungrateful prick I say... I even advised his to git some crackers and cheese without him knowing why... he didnt.

He seems to be a sheltered feller...?

GBR yall!

Holy fuck, that sucks. Place looked spectacular
it was built in 1920, burned down in a previous fire then the current version opened in 1937. the north rim was great because there were so few people there, probably not more than a couple hundred on any given day. it was a really unique experience compared to the touristy south rim

as unfortunate as this was, it’s best for all to keep their emotions in check. many reasons for fires. i have not read of any deaths or injuries which trump any damage to structures. Governor Katie Slobbs seems to be wanting to point fingers versus finding solutions for those affected.

Anybody seeing some good deer on their cameras? Didn’t even get ours out til 2 weeks ago, so haven’t checked, but our food plots are looking incredible, and we’ll supplement them near Labor Day in IL.

This guy was about 20' off the street on the AM Dog Walk yesterday.
He moved away when we walked up then turned and looked at us.
By the time Dad got his phone out of his pocket he was headed between houses towards the wash
Cute lil dude.

Jameis H. Winston, with those ears it looks like a cross between Dumbo and Bambi.
