Looks tropical. What are ya slaying out there?
Nuevo Vallarta. Just a little north of Puerto Vallarta. Great condos on the beach through VRBO. We had a four bedroom, updated condo with the balcony facing the ocean for less than $300 a night. Not the crowds or craziness of Puerto Vallarta. It’s our new “go-to” place. Here is the view from inside. I highly recommend.

Was able to shoot this beautiful branch tonight. Thank god I hit it otherwise I might have hurt a big mature 4x4 white tail with a super wide rack that was standing behind it.
My dad knows your pain. He shot a beautiful 4” locust tree left handed with a rifle and saved the life of a 206” whitetail.

Learned tonight that my suppressor did not change the impact point on my 22-250. One less coyote in this world.

I’m curious if scent control is going to a problem AT 13 FUCKING DEGREES on Saturday morning for the rifle season opener. Not a lot of sweating happening this weekend, I suspect.
It’s gonna be a cold SOB out there! Although, you could be sitting in a redneck blind with a heater like myself 😁
At that point you pack some booze and forget scent control my friend.

Cold ass ground blind in my future. I may be stomping my feet like a buck in rut just to keep the blood flowing. I have a mini-heater Buddy, but think that would completely blow the entire notion of the ground blind. Might have to toss it in the camper just to have it along ... in case.

@LHR, I hope I remember correctly...you are starting to deer hunt this year?

If so, get some feedlot boots, hand, foot, and body warmers, and don't rely too much on that buddy heater. Put the warm on your toes, hands and body, and you'll last much longer than if you burn a bunch of propane in a ground blind or tree stand.

I'm equipped with all that (even the feedlot boots) and more. I've been hunting for years - just never for deer - and am "blessed with an abundance" of warm weather gear. Granted, the action of walking fields has helped to keep my ass warm on many a zero degree December morning, and sitting won't provide the same blood flow. And the 'heater buddy' idea won't be heading to the canvas blind. I might have it in the camper as a backup to the furnace in case of failure (ex-Boy Scout here: Be Prepared!). Appreciate the guidance, though. Rookie gonna rookie in the forest, no doubt.

I have to tell this quick "cold weather" related story ... just because I like telling stories. My son played travel hockey in his younger days, and we rolled into Benson, MN on one of the coldest days I can remember. The temperature on the Suburban rear-view mirror read -27 when we pulled into town on Friday night, if that gives you an idea of what kind of cold we were dealing with.

The next morning, it felt like it was even colder inside the ice rink. Our kids were skating like shit, and MN has this weird youth hockey rule that the ice is cleaned every two periods, regardless of game stop & start, and the game started with "dirty" ice. At the break between periods one and two while the Zamboni driver was doing his thing, we asked our boys what the problem was. "I can't feel my hands or my feet" was the universal response. So myself and a couple of other Dads ran next door to the Mills Fleet Farm and bought out ALL of their hand and foot warmers, and hustled them back to the rink. The boys feathered them into their gear between shifts in period two and ... voila! Came back and beat the host team.

Side note: I was filming the game using a Sony video camera, and halfway through period 2, the thing made this "uhhhhhhh" sound and simply froze up. Literally froze the camera to death. Everything locked up tighter than @Elizabeth Reed's liquor cabinet and it just fucking died. I had to break the camera apart to salvage the game footage for posterity.

I took the liberty of hustling back to Mills Fleet Farm post-game to buy the warmest cot dam pair of boots they had in the store as my feet were freezing, too. Still have 'em, and I've never had cold toes whilst wearing them since. They're definitely packed for the trip.

I used a pop up ground blind for many years and ran the heaters in those too. Of course there’s always the scent control element. Some times I didn’t care but most time i set up so my scent was in my favor. A heater in a ground blind can sometimes be enough to take that edge off. But like mentioned before, those hand, toe and body warmers are like gold! Little thermos of coffee helps too! 😁
Notice the coffee and “creamer” of choice.

Soooo ... coffee raises a rookie question: what did you do with your piss? I've heard everything from "bucks get curious and will head right to it" to "dig a hole and cover it as you go" to "old milk jug". Since our ground blind has been sitting there for a couple of weeks, relocating it day-of-hunt might be an issue, and I'm mindful of the entire scent control mantra. I won't know which way the wind is blowing until opening day, really.
