@huskermack please ignore @Jim14510 and tell us more about the van
My Dad is already planning a trip to Yellowstone that won’t happen at least for 3 years.
I’m thinking about renting a tricked out sprinter van for the trip. (Cuz I don’t want to drive a RV in the mountains and on cluster fuck Yellowstone tourist traffic jams)
What are your experiences with it?
PS: we would only be using it to drive there, no way in hell my wife would camp, that bitch already loves the Lake Hotel in Yellowstone and we for sure will be staying there likely the entire trip. (RIP my money)
Our van is a 2006 Sportsmobile E350 conversion.
It has Dynatrac Dana 60 front axles and an Atlas II transfer case.
Sportsmobile uses leaf springs in the front as opposed to Quigley’s use of coils. Most who’ve driven both prefer the leafs.
The pop top has a bed up there and there’s another below - the bench seat folds down.
We have a little fridge, propane heat, a propane water-heater, and 10 gallons of fresh water. That’s not much so we carry 6-12 gallons with us.
My wife and two daughters (7 and 9) can pretty much live in it indefinitely. It’s crowded at times, but we’re usually only in there to sleep.
The sprinter vans have pros and cons.
One con for me is they can’t tow as well as our Ford. We had the 6.0 woes, but now that it’s bulletproofed, I can tow about anything I want.
The pros? Gas mileage. I’ve heard of folks getting 22mpg with the little diesel in the sprinter. I get about 15 towing and 10 or so driving around town.
Either van type are selling for ridiculous prices.
We have put a bunch of miles on ours and could probably sell it for $30-40k more than we paid for it.
