OT: What stupid things do you enjoy as you got older?

I was gonna post this in the Lawn thread @HuskerPAC started but I figured it fit in more here cuz we are a bunch of Dads.

I dethatched and scarified my lawn last fall (apparently had not been done since they had the UGS installed 20+ years ago)

Then I watered hard and put down lime (due to cedars, junipers and ponderosa pines I have around the perimeter of the lawn) I overseeded with fescue 31 in the fall and put down a cheap 10-0-0 with it.

My wife has been bitching at me all fall and winter for our yard “looking like shit” after I dethatched/scarified.

I’ve already passive aggressively said “wow the lawn looks good huh?” To my son within ear shot of my wife no less than 20 times even tho my wife has said the lawn looks way better.

Big W for Daddy but I didn’t win this just for myself… I won this for the whole State of Nebraska. GBR, Run the Damn Ball.

Looks fucking great!

My lawn is growing so fast I can barely keep up with it. Sprayed some weeds this past weekend and am trying to make some decisions about landscaping for the next couple of years. Its been crazy seeing all of the landscaping growing and blooming lately since we had no idea what was going to pop out of the ground this year.

On a related note, I bought a pretty nice Ego mower after the move and the thing is driving me crazy already. It leaves a thin strip of grass along the right side of the deck uncut half the time, so I end up with these random lines of tall grass after I’m done. It doesn’t even seem to make a difference if I make my lines narrower. I don’t know wtf the deal is, but wondering if anyone else here has one.

-Having a bad ass lawn
-Growing vegetables, especially super hot peppers I can make my own salsas from
-Fucking randos and seeing the look of utter jealousy on my neighbor’s face. Especially when he’s loading up his van with kids on Sunday morning and some sloot is doing the walk of shame down my driveway

I used to go to movies by myself during the day. Place would be completely empty. I found it very relaxing

Mrs. Bomber and I have a dandy garden each year. 65-70 hills of taters, 10 tomato plants, 25 pepper plants (mostly jalapeños) and a shitload of green beans. Like 12-15 rows of green beans. Lots of yellow squash and she also has her own little herb area.

We dill the beans, putting up 30-35 quarts each year. And she also has started dilling carrots. We throw the potatoes in plastic bags at harvest and drop off with friends, neighbors and clients.

We also used to put up 40-45 quart bags of homemade spaghetti sauce. Had some of our own tomatoes but bought most of what we used from the local farmer’s market. Ended up being a lot of damn work and we finally shut it down a few years ago.
