embezzlement.

I always loved the blues scene there, especially at The Grand Emporium, which apparently no longer exists 😔

In any case, I’ve heard the city has turned pretty sketchy… we’re staying at the ambassador hotel downtown.
Wouldn’t worry much about it, but I’m accompanied by four other couples (eight individuals) for whom I feel responsible. Should I carry hard, or soft? (9 mm handgun, simple projectile stun gun), or nothing at all.

youll be okay Santa

I’ve walked around alone in virtually every major US city over the last couple of years and basically have never felt unsafe, but that’s just me.

No you haven’t…every major US city?… Guarantee I travel the country more than you, and I haven’t even come close to doing that over the last couple years.

Love how some want to minimize the decay of the American inner citie. You’re a liar…likely haven’t left your home town in a decade…I’ll now know to disregard any posts from you going forward.

Seriously I feel like I'm living in another reality when I see posts like this

I think you’ve always lived in your own reality, unrelated to the rest of us. You can’t seriously deny that metro KC has degraded over the past 10 years. I can list crime, statistics, if that helps.

Always love (find a humorous) how those who don’t traveled extensively dismiss the concerns of those that do. I was born in freaking Sierra Leone Africa (look it up). I’ve visited every few years over the last three decades … I don’t take violence lightly, nor do I exaggerate it.

Love the fantasy “Liam Neeson”, type bravado by some in this thread…It’s hilarious. I travel to LA/Hollywood almost weekly… most of the “bad asses” in this thread, would piss down their leg if they witnessed some of the situation’s I have seen. I love all the bro- Nebraskans playing “tough guy”.

Hilarious I ask a simple question, and we have all these bad-ass, urban warriors showing up, talking shit, how they’re not afraid of anything even though they don’t live in urban area…and have never experienced anything. 🤣

Kansas City experienced a rise in crime in 2023, which was the deadliest year on record for the city with 182 homicides, and has continued to face high violent crime rates into 2024 and 2025. While national crime rates declined, Kansas City's violent crime rate is consistently among the highest in the U.S., with property crimes and specific issues like domestic violence homicides also increasing in 2025. The city's high crime rates have led to it being ranked among the most dangerous cities in America.

Yeah…But you’re bad-ass…I’m sure you can handle it (till you can’t).

Brother, they have every disease under the sun. It’s the true definition of a shit hole….as it is in about every African country you can list, other than possibly Egypt.

Major city = top 6-7 in my book. Not that far fetched.

Edit: just looked it up, I’ve been to 15 of the top 20 MSAs in the last 5 years and 5 out of the top 7. Its not really that crazy.

I like how people just dismiss that we all live different lives and have different realities. Things feel different to different people.

People who are natives to one place may say it's no longer comfortable to be around the "big city/ wherever they're from". But to people who moved there from say an even bigger city may say oh no no I way more safe than the other bigger cities I came from.

People just have different experiences.

That’s why you simply go by the crime statistics…Those show KC is one of the most violent/dangerous cities in the country. Now, if you live in the south side of Chicago, or south central Los Angeles, that might not mean much to you, but if you live in any average US city, that’s something to take note of, prepare for, and take some normal precautions (especially when your family is involved). That’s not being an alarmist, or paranoid, that’s just being responsible.

If you are sincere in your question, and "nothing at all" is an actual choice, then that is my answer for ya. Power and Light district (where you'll be) isn't a scary or crime-ridden part of town. Shit can happen there like it can anywhere else, but I have never witnessed any situations there that made me feel unsafe or wish I had a weapon of any kind.
