not getting either offensive lineman that visited would be a far bigger loss than Hornsby in my opinion
no question - you're losing a guy who would get 70 snaps a game. Hornsby may never see the field - who knows how he turns out as a WR?

Every single guy we bring in from this point forward means someone already here has to leave. I get that we need to upgrade our roster but I dont like the idea of sending someone down the road on a flyer if the guy you are sending has been a good teammate and done the right things. If you are doing an obvious upgrade for someone that will play everyday then that is business, but if you are doing it for someone that may or may not work then I dont like it.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but I read this and agree.

It's one thing if a guy leaves because the transfer beat him out.

But to get processed in favor of a transfer who might not contribute, that seems pretty crappy.

This will be a tricky thing to navigate. Every bit of good will that has been gained with local coaches could be lost if the wrong kids get processed. Coaches understand this is business, but they also have feelings for the kids that they have sent here. I am hearing the baseball program has lost some in state goodwill do to the way they have treated local kids in an attempt to upgrade the roster.

While it sucks someone gets forced out we have to realize this program has been a losing one for the last 6 years. That means the right players and personnel haven’t been in place. That needs to be changed because while they are students this is also a business and business decisions are being made.

Luckily the kids processed out have the option to stay and get their school paid for but if they don’t want to just get school they have the option to find a new home. That’s how it works today and forever going forward.

Never trust anyone who retweets their own tweets.
Rhule also retweeted this since yesterday afternoon. Three handshake deals to commit last Wednesday that still stood as of the time of the retweet

I realize all those things. What I am saying is you dont cut loose a local kid that has been loyal for 3 years to bring in a project that only has two years of eligibility and has to change positions, something that usually doesnt work out.
Wait, what? Who was the local kid who got cut?

Nobody has, we are talking about the reality that for every guy you bring in now, someone has to go. We are already at the point that 7 have to go and it will be more. If that is voluntary that makes it easy, but if you have to cut guys loose its not so cut and dried.

Its not hypothetical, we are already at the point that 7 have got to go. I also dont think anyone is mad, I think we are discussing the concerns and when it is worth it and when it isnt.
you are assuming there's no one on the team that isn't doing their part. looking at the lack of development, I'd say there's plenty that have been half-assing things in the weight room and/or at the dinner table

it's a moot point anyway, there will be plenty of transfers out after spring practice

Which is why i qualified it by saying if they are being a good teammate and doing the right things.

There will definitely be some, but if we get a few more guys it might have to be 10. Thats a pretty large number after the amount we just had. It might be needed but I hope we dont have to force a bunch out.
