Official 2025 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread (4-8) - We Suck Again

Jaxon Jelkin. UNL booted him.

NU > South Mountain > Houston > Tommy John > Mets 9th round > not signed > Kentucky.

How shitty of a front office do you have to have to not sign as many draft picks as the Mets have. Not signing 2 in the first 10 rounds in 2 years is unacceptable.

If I’m a front office guy you better be damn sure that the guys you’re taking in the first 10 rounds are kids that will sign. Can’t afford to lose those picks.

Their biggest fuck up was not drafting an insurance policy guy in the last two rounds. They got the #11 pick the following season in 2022 (Rocker was #10).
Also since they shrank the draft and have a slotted bonus pool money in the first 10 rounds plenty of teams don’t sign 1 of their Rounds 6-10 guys now. A lot of those guys are high upside guys or SRs where they can sign for under slot to pay their 1st and 2nd rounders. Jaxon was also drafted by the Dodgers after south mountain in the 14th. My guess is there is some sort of background red flag that isn’t readily available to the scouts until after the draft.

There’s not been too many years where the Braves haven’t signed all of their guys. Maybe I’m guilty of not looking at all teams close enough. If you’re using a pick on him in the first 10 rounds you have to sign him.

But I feel you’re right with there being some background red flag that’s not available until after you take a longer look.

With the new rules of now going over bonus pool money you can lose draft positioning and or picks. The Rays didnt sign their second rounder Tyler Bell (went to Kentucky) this past year because they would have gone over their pool money.

When you are nowhere fuckin close to the zone with your secondary stuff you have to come fat with too many fastballs and everyone in the fuckin league can hit if they don’t have to worry about anything but your fastball.

Really really ugly stuff there from Horn.

He wasn’t just unlucky.

That inning:

Horn looked much better. The guy who doubled struck out at least twice before he finally got one he could put just over 3B for a double.

Huskers get runners on.

Stoney JUST missed one off the end of the bat that ended up a harmless but loud out.

Swanson hit one that caught RF in between whether he takes it on a hop or goes and makes a play. He did neither and it least to a Husker run. I’d score it a single and an error.

Huskers had runners on 2nd 3rd.

Helligso goes up. Count is 1-0, umpire calls a strike I’m sure Horn will like to have. Changed the entire at bat. Then is thrown a strike for strike three that again Horn wants in this next inning.

Missed opportunity. But the bats are a bit better today. I think we’ll get some next inning with top or the order coming up.
