Nebraska set to to host top New Mexico State transfer portal OT Shiyazh Pete
The Nebraska football team is set to host another top offensive tackle prospect from the transfer portal this week. Alabama starting right tackle
Elijah Pritchett is already on campus, and
HuskerOnline confirmed that New Mexico State starting left tackle
Shiyazh Pete is also set to visit NU this week.
The 6-foot-8, 320-pound Pete was a 2023 All-Conference USA first-team selection, while in 2024, he didn’t play until Week 8 of the season, starting the Aggie’s final six games at left tackle.
Throughout his career, Pete has played 1,839 snaps at left tackle. In 2024, he allowed just five QB pressures on 193 pass-blocking plays – two sacks and three hurries. He carried an overall grade of 72.2 on PFF during the 2024 season.
In 443 pass-blocking situations in 2023, he allowed three sacks, five QB hits and 23 hurries.
He has just one year remaining of eligibility, and the early expectation is that NU would take both Pritchett and Pete if the opportunity presented itself. The Huskers lost veteran offensive linemen
Bryce Benhart,
Micah Mazzccua and
Ben Scottto graduation, while
Teddy Prochazka,
Tyler Knaak and
Turner Corcoran had season-ending injuries in 2024.
The Missoula (Mont.) native played his high school football at Shiprock High School.
Pete has picked up plenty of attention in the transfer portal
Besides Nebraska, Pete has picked up quite a bit of interest in the transfer portal.
Michigan, Oklahoma State, USC, Kentucky, Cockeye State, Stanford and Vanderbilt have all expressed interest in Pete.
Pete has played 33 games over his career at New Mexico State, making 31 starts at left tackle.
Thus far, the Huskers have added 14 players from the transfer portal with at least three known targets still out there – Pete, Pritchett, and UTEP EDGE
Maurice Westmoreland.
Second-semester classes at NU begin on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
