So….

Caleb Clarke doesn’t understand the situation and he doesn’t even glance at the runner on 2B. He steals third without a throw. On you Caleb.

A pick off attempt by Caleb Clarke to first goes about as well as you’d expect it to go. So of course it ends up in right field. Runner scores. Now we’ve got a runner on 3rd.

He at struck the next guy out.

Two outs.

Routine play at 3rd ends up in right field.

Washington now up 6-2 and it is purely the result of Nebraska being a very bad baseball team at this point.

You had runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out last half inning and you liked your chances of tying the game. Now because you just played a terrible half inning of baseball filled with ridiculous mistakes that simply can’t be made, this game might be out of reach.

On Childress. He calls looks with each pitch.

Bad baseball today. Extremely disappointing.

The approach at the plate appears to be “Sit fastball, adjust off-speed.” That’s nothing new and anyone who’s played at a high school level has heard that.

I’m not seeing a good enough adjustment to the off-speed stuff. We are way out in front of even some of the worst off-speed stuff and it’s resulting in some soft pop ups.

I could be wrong. But that’s what my eyes are telling me.

It's been like that for years, dating back to the Erstad era. Our approach is to take FB's away and make someone beat us with their secondary pitches. I agree with the initial approach, it's across college baseball. And, no different than the LSU game, in game 1 today their starter couldn't get his secondary stuff close enough to the zone, we smashed his FB, but their bullpen arms were able to mix it up. They shut us down. Go back to the LSU game and their starter, we took away his FB early but once he settled in, we were fucked...

...same with game 2 today. ++ slider from the starter and we struggled in the first 6 innings.

Whether we adjust our 2-strike approach or not is up for debate. It's where I'd start, beginning Sunday against UW and force it for the next 3-4 games. We are way too experienced to be sitting at 4-8. We're -3 minimum in the win column. Get right Sunday, sweep this midweek and ride the momentum to an 11-day trip to California for 8 games.
