Most likely Hire? Your Out of the Blue Hire candidate & why?

It appears that the Aranda talk that was heating up has completely died down ever since Ewald shot out his Twitter reply - did the "shoot down the rumors" work? he was one of the first names listed and I feel like people have had to work hard to shoot it down. Moving Aranda from Baylor is much easier to me than #2ndChoice from Cincy. I do think any "out of the blue" would be a retread guy...

Until I hear otherwise I will say:

Most Likely: Aranda
Some out of the Blues that would be interesting: Jim Mora, Manny Diaz, Dan Mullen

An out of the blue QUESTION: what if David Shaw came to the B1G to stay in a relevant conference and face off with his old boss in Harbaugh? I feel like he's a guy that had been incredibly steady, yet is constantly forgotten about. He makes BANK at Stanford, but does relevancy and legacy matter more to him as he gets to the latter half of his career? Is he fed up with the "Ivy" style that Stanford runs administratively? His style would fit in the B1G immediately. The risk is, we are getting him on the way down as he has had a downturn with 2 tough years in his last 3.
Everything after your most likely is terrifying.

Most Likely: Rhule

Out of the Blue: Aranda

Out of the Blue Blue: Mike Elko-Jersey guy, strikes me as a great fit in B1G. Defensive mind who while at Wake Forest in 2016 his defense finished in the Top 20 in defensive touchdowns scored, turnovers, red zone defense, sacks, and scoring defense. Alabama, Clemson and Washington were the only other 3 teams to accomplish that in 2016.
At Texas A&M in 2018 and 2020 his rushing defense finished 2nd in the nation. Total defense in 2018 was ranked 9th.
He seems like a guy that eats, sleeps and shits football 24/7.

Most likely hire: Matt Rhule
Most out of the blue hire: Tom Hermann

Hire that message boarders would hate but makes some sense: Jeff Monken

Here's a Jeff Monken scenario I could get behind: Monken is hired. Brent Davis takes the Army job. Monken brings in a coordinator nobody knows about....Matt Drinkall. "Running a no-huddle, Power-Spread system, Drinkall’s offense set conference and school records for points per game (54.3) and yards per game (530.8) during the regular season. The 2018 offense produced a quarterback accounting for 3,739 yards and 47 touchdowns, while simultaneously producing a running back that accounted for 2,788 yards and 41 total touchdowns. Averaging over seven yards per play, the 2018 offense additionally set conference and school records for total points, total yards, points in a game (83), points in a half (69), points in a quarter (49). All three records were set in separate games." Drinkall obviously lacks power 5 experience so let's pair him with a run coordinator, Scott Fuchs.

Monken then calls up Phil Parker and says "Sup bro? Wanna coach a defense that doesn't have to carry an entire team" and Parker says "Fo sho fuck dem racists fools in Cockeye City" *for reference I am not sure of the lingo Monken or Parker use.

Mickey Joseph can stay.

Rest of those dudes can bounce.

Sean Teter gets hired as a strength and conditioning coach. I become an insider and probably hang out all the time in Lincoln. I tee-pee Callahan's yard every Friday night so he has to wake up and deal with that before games. Idiot.

FWIW....some of you message boarders talk about Mickey Joseph being hired by the AD and not Frost as a plant to get Aranda. What about Wes Fleming? Maybe he's a plant. Former analyst at Army and former coordinator under Matt Drinkall.

Most Likely: Doeren. Midwest ties. Seems like he's taken NC State as far as it can go and gets the chance to jump out of the ACC. Brings a history of developing good line play (which I assume would play well w/ Turd) and assume he would just bring Garrison home (Maybe Beck too).

Out of the Blue: Lane Kiffin. It seems pretty obvious that he wants out of Ole Miss, but does Lane doing Lane shit turn off Turd? Lane will spend as much time as possible in Boca and be a shithead, and I could see Turd not wanting to deal with that based on SF hangover. That said, results speak for themselves of Ole Miss and if you can get him, I would.

Fuck Doeren. He's got an okay floor but his ceiling is pretty fucking low. I'm out if we hire him.

We are in NO position to worry about if Lane does "Lane" stuff. He's a top tier coach, and still young.

Tired of hearing we gotta thread this needle through the Nebraska way pinhole to find a coach. Pay the big bucks for the best out there, and give them all the support they need to do their thing.

We are making this too complicated.

I think you're missing the point a bit. Lane is pretty much universally understood in the coaching community to be pretty disorganized and a little immature. He spends like 9 months a year max in Oxford right now, and the rest of the time in Boca. I like Lane quite a bit and he's my no. 1 guy for the job, but he's going to be an acquired taste for a lot of ADs. Coming off of SF, how much trepidation do you think Turd is going to have for an disorganized, offensive savant man child who likes to fuck 20 somethings on his boat?

He's proven he has learned from his past immaturity. He obviously has coaching chops, a top notch recruiter, brings excellent energy. He's thought of as a top tier coach for a reason.

No coach is a "perfect" fit. Those who don't want Urban because he doesn't fit the Nebraska way are looking at things the wrong way. That is not how big time college football operates anymore. We need to forget about the "Nebraska way", anyway. Severely limits what coaches we will accept, and coaches know it.

Now I am not saying hire a guy to huge dollars who has real, large red flags all around him. I am saying hire top tier guys who know how to win and bring in assistants who are top tier and know how to win and have shown a history of being able to do that. You aren't likely to get that with hires of the middling level. We don't have 2 decades for a T.O. to build a program. It took T.O. 20 years or so to finally get to the top. Not like he was ever "bad", his teams were usually ranked in the top 5 or at least the top 10, never a season under 9 wins (yes, I realize a different era, but that is a big part of my point). But it took many years for T.O. to adapt, adjust and finally get to a point where we were winning chips.

That model is no longer how things work. Harbaugh at Mich has had ups and downs, but mostly his teams have been very good. He's a top tier coach, even with his strangeness and weaknesses.

We are down and out. Extremely lucky to still have the booster backing and fan backing we do given our losing history going on for too long now. A top tier coach has a much better chance of getting to a higher ceiling than a middling coach, for numerous reasons.

lol, this isn't NCAA 2014 dude. What I'm saying doesn't have anything to do with the "Nebraska way" or how big time college football operates. I even said in there that Lane would be my guy if he takes the job. You are fighting w/ windmills here.
