From the Kentucky On.3 site I'd link if the autocorrect didn't mess up links from that site:

Kentucky has five open scholarships remaining on the 2023 roster. Despite adding USC transfer Courtland Ford over a week ago, offensive tackle still remains a position of need in Lexington. Utah transfer Tyler Knaak is now on the radar.
After one season in the Pac-12, Knaak is on the move and looking for a new college football home after entering the transfer portal on April 27. Could Kentucky add a second Pac-12 transfer at tackle within a month?
After touching on Knaak’s offer, KSR’s Bio Blast is here to dig a little deeper on the latest Kentucky transfer target. With only six scholarship tackles currently on the roster, the Big Blue Wall needs some depth before the 2023 season gets off and running in August.

Power Five high school recruitment

Tyler Knaak was ranked just outside the top 1,000 in the 2022 On3 Industry Ranking. The offensive tackle recruit was a top-15 prospect in Utah. Despite the low ranking, Knaak had some legitimate Power Five interest.

Knaak had a late developing recruitment that ended with consecutive official visits to Virginia, Utah, and Oregon State during November of his senior season. In-state Utah got the last visit on Thanksgiving weekend and a commitment followed one week later.
The early enrollee would spend three semesters in Kyle Whittingham‘s program before entering the transfer portal last month.

New to offensive tackle

Part of the reason that Tyler Knaak had a late developing recruitment in high school was due to the prospect’s lack of playing experience. The 2022 season was just the second that the Utah native had spent at offensive tackle.

Playing for Cottonwood Heights (Utah) Brighton, Knaak began his prep career at defensive line and stayed there until his senior season. As a junior in 2020, Knaak recorded 19 tackles. The prospect shifted to tackle as a senior and recorded 72 pancake blocks.
Due to Knaak’s length and size, there appear to be some raw left tackle tools giving this young player some upside. After rotating in with Utah’s two this spring, Knakk decided to enter the transfer portal.

Limited Power Five interest as a transfer

Tyler Knaak was a late entry into the spring transfer portal window and has zero college playing experience on top of limited tape due to just one season of high school at offensive tackle. Therefore, this could be a limited recruitment this late in the process.
That has played out in the type of scholarship offers that Knaak has received in the last week.
There has been a plethora of Group of Five interest with Appalachian State, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Hawaii, Liberty, Nevada, Old Dominion, UMass, and Utah State all issuing offers. Kentucky became the first Power Five school to offer.

Knaak’s recruitment will be one based on upside and projection due to the limited amount of playing experience. Whoever takes the transfer will be on the hook to honor this scholarship offer until Knaak graduates or turns pro. There will be some level of risk involved. However, with scholarship capital available and a lack of numbers at tackle, this could be a calculated gamble that Kentucky will need to take.
The Wildcats need another tackle. Tyler Knaak requires development but could become a future answer at left tackle for the Big Blue Wall.

Nebraska, Michigan, TCU, Boise State and Oregon remain the favorites for the four-star speedster from Burley, Idaho and some recent interactions with at least two assistant coaches stood out a ton.
The four-star receiver was blown away by interacting with Michigan assistant Jay Harbaugh and one source said Nebraska assistant Garret McGuire, who’s just 24 years old, is on the “Kenny Dillingham path” to success so that’s a big boon for the Huskers in the recruitment of Bair as well. Nebraska is believed to have the edge in his recruitment at this point.

How much control do these kids get in where they are sent on a mission? Any chance he could come save souls in Lincoln and take 200 unofficial visits next year?

next to nothing.
What are the chances he stays stateside vs. getting sent overseas? Hopefully wherever he ends up he has access to good training facilities.*

*Assuming he signs with Nebraska. If he goes to Michigan or elsewhere, I hope he gets sent to Antarctica.

It’s a complete crapshoot and there’s no athletic support

there are a large number of kids who go on missions and come back as freshman contributors. He would also be a January 2026 enrollee

Tough to say.
I have connections to LDS members some have gone overseas, some have gone about a hour away from their hometown

Noting the changes for Cornhuskers commits and targets in the Top247

How did the new rankings from 247Sports change things for Nebraska's commitments and targets in the 2024 class?

MIKE SCHAEFER35 mins1

247Sports updated its 2024 rankings on Monday and that meant a few changes for some Nebraska targets inside the latest Top247.

Here’s a few of those notables:

Gatlin Bair — The talented wide receiver from Idaho checks in Now at No. 36, just a few scant spots away from a potential five-star rating.

Nebraska is in the Top 5 for the wide receiver joining Boise State, Michigan, Oregon and TCU. Bair is one of the most explosive players in the country and has been a big priority for Nebraska and wide receivers coach Garret McGuire

Brandon Baker
— This big offensive tackle from Mater Dei has been high on the Huskers since making the first of two visits in March and then following up in the spring game.

The five-star offensive tackle didn’t move at all in the rankings, but the competition for Baker figures to be fierce. He’s got visits set to Georgia and Ohio State at this time.

Aydin Breland — This big defensive lineman made a large jump inside the upper portion of the Top247 as he’s now listed as one of the six best recruits in the country.

Nebraska is inside the Top 10 and will have to fight to get an official visit, but the lineman did leave Lincoln very impressed.

Roger Gradney — The first member of Nebraska’s class doesn’t see much change in his ranking as he moved from No. 158 to No. 165.

Gradney visited in March and is expected back again for an official visit, potentially this summer.

Nate Frazier — This Mater Dei star loved his Nebraska visit in March and continues to be interested in the Huskers, but there’s going to be a lot of competition for the running back.

Frazier moved up 31 spots to No. 153 and his rating moved up to a 91.

Willis McGahee IV
— The Nebraska commit stays relatively in the same spot, slightly moving back from No. 232 to No. 236.

McGahee committed to Nebraska just before the spring game and is planning to be a Jack linebacker for the Huskers.

Carter Nelson — The top player in Nebraska made a huge jump in the recruiting rankings, vaulting all the way up to No. 40 from No. 123. The jump moved Nelson to the No. 2 tight end in the country.

The Huskers are among several teams pushing for the Ainsworth star and his relationship with Matt Rhule and staff has continued to grow.

Jacob Smith — This Cheshire Academy defender isn’t far from the spot on the list where he found himself in the previous updates. Smith checks in at No. 229 after being at No. 212 and moving down as some new players found their way into the Top247.

Smith is planning on visiting Nebraska officially this summer. The defender’s twin brother is committed to Michigan, but Smith wants to get back to Lincoln after enjoying his previous trips.

That would be so funny if garret McGuire landed our first five star since Steinkuhler
