Maurice Washington's response to Tanner Farmer's practice story

We are a worse team because we tried to fix Maurice Washington. There’s a reason every other team said “hard pass”. It was absolutely not worth the risk. And if you think this kind of “character be damned let’s recruit talent” mentality is isolated to Mo look at the WR or DB room in year 5. Bunch of bandaids

Marcus Fleming says hello. Shit he would have been nice to have had he not been a total tool as well.

If we are going to build the program around Belts and Liewers thats fine. Let’s switch to the triple option or something then because we aren’t going to compete for Big10 titles running a spread pass heavy scheme with no high caliber athletes

So we bend the rules so Mo Washington can fit?

We bend the rules so we can win football games. That’s all that matters wins and losses.

Wasn’t rape, robbery, and steroid use rampant during the 90’s? No one gives a shit cuz we won football games

So a kid doesn’t have to follow team rules or respect any type of authority or leadership if he’s good enough is what you’re saying ?

You make an assumption that the athletes we need to win are all bad actors.

Mo was a huge gamble that NU tried and failed on. Did we need to have more Mo's that play one season, wreak havoc on the program, and fade away?

Things can and have been overlooked when someone is a teammate who is bought in and working hard. All of those guys were unified as a team, and guess what, team captains handled a lot of the day to day discipline.

Yup if you have a really strong team culture then you can handle a few bad apples

There was no discipline on the Riley teams, and then we had a coaching change, so the environment was not good for Mo Wash

Am I wrong or why does it seem that all the difference makers NU ever gets seem to get have character issues? Can we not recruit elite talent and the only elite talent that wants NU is b/c nobody else wants them?

Or do other programs have protocols in place to deal with "character" issue players that NU does not?

We had many, many players with similar (or worse) issues under TO. Difference was that society was a little different back then and he was better at managing people like that.

True, and we were not in the age of twitter and social media. Issues become much more amplified in the information age and give you less discretion to manage them on your own.
