Marcus Satterfield - Who is he?

Let’s assume Rhule parts ways with Satt at the conclusion of this season.

Who does he hire?

  1. Promote Glenn Thomas to full-time OC.
  2. Darrin Hinshaw
  3. Casey Woods
  4. Mach Leftwich
  5. Tim Cramsey

I’m all for it.

There are hundreds of good schemes we could run. We chose to employ none of them and run what you see now.
And who owns that? Rhule does. Where in his history would you find confidence that Rhule knows what he’s doing on offense? I agree with @Herbie complacency is a real thing. What is motivating Rhule to get out of his comfort zone and actually try and win?

So your logic, we're going to fire Rhule after year 2 because he hasn't tried to get out of his comfort zone yet?

He stuck with Satt this year. Last year, we had shitty QB's and a lot of injuries, so Satt had a pass. This year though, he doesn't. Rhule will make a decision later to fire or keep him. If he keeps him, then year, it's a different conversation after this season.

Who said fire Rhule? I’m simply pointing out there is not much in his history that gives me any confidence he knows what he’s doing on offense.

Satterfield is the same shitty coach now as he was when we hired him. Baby Gravy McGuire was clearly an inexperienced unqualified coach when we hired him. Our offense sucking shouldn’t surprise anyone!

What would motivate Rhule to change now? In his mind, we just have to learn to win close games and this is just how the Big Ten operates. Listen to his press conferences and he makes that clear. I’ll be surprised if he makes any major changes on offense and if he does he’ll just bring in another retread like Satterfield.

Im out until the OC/WR/STC is out. Trying to win a state championship down here in Kansas. This team isn’t worth my time right now.
See ya in a few weeks.
I assume coach Rice is doing a good job then.

If Rhule retains Satterfield he’s going to lose a ton of support from fans & boosters. Raiolas should leave with what they’ve seen Satt do in year 1 & good luck getting money for recruiting after that.

It would be a nail in the coffin for his future at Nebraska & he may think Satterfield isn’t to blame but the guy clearly doesn’t know how to manage the problems on offense & continues to operate the same expecting different results. If Rhule doesn’t fire him Monday then I’m done for the season & if he isn’t fired this offseason than I might as well be out on 2025 & 2026.

Shitterfield is awful. Dude had no business as our OC, even at a low salary number. Top ten OC pay - GTFO.

Our offense will be ass as long as Shitterfield is our OC. Thomas is almost certainly not the answer to fix that since he is here and we still have this shit show of an "offense". There is no coherent ryhme or reason to how Shitterfield calls a game. There are not adjustments. He is incapable of countering what defenses are taking away and leaving open by shading to our very clear tendencies. The players aren't dumb, they know the playcalling and scheme is awful. Our awful OC has hurt and hampered every aspect of what our offense is capable of doing.

Yes, DR has been bad the last 4 or 5 games. We are playing better competion, and they have the book on how to beat our few plays we try to run. Square peg, round hole. There is no innovation or adjustment by Shitterfield. We may not have awesome RB's, WR's or TE's, but they are much better than what this shit offensive "scheme" shows. O Line is not as bad as it is often made to look. No player will look good consistently when the opposing defense and DC has us scouted out to the 9's.

If Rhule is not enough of a leader to make the obvious coaching changes, then he is not the guy. I am now very skeptical that Rhule has it in him to make the necessary, and obvious changes. It is a travesty that with an incredible budget to hire an assistant staff, guys like Shitterfield, McGoober, and Mr Fat Diner dude were some of his hires. They have all failed miserably. A HC has to be man enough to admit his mistakes, and then adjust and improve. The university and program has the $ to do it, but does Rhule have the internal fortitude to do it. We are spending so much $ on every aspect to make us a top level program, that having shitty coaches and coordinators flies in the face of all the $ and efforts to make that all work like it should.

TBH this is such a clusterfuck that never should have sunk to this level. Rhule HAS to make, bare minimum, changes at OC, WR and Special teams coaches. I think Don R is OK as our O Line coach. But the 3 obvious floundering coaches need to be shitcanned and Rhule HAS to bring in guys who are not only at least average, but actually good at their jobs. We will see what Rhule has for cahones to do these things.

Very good post and I feel bad reducing it down to one sentence. But I did want to say to this point that I’m not sure we have the evidence to say yes or no on this point, yet.

We will get our answer(s) shortly. Hopefully over the bye week we begin to hear some credible rumors like we did last week on Holgerson and Chryst.

The best offensive coach Rhule probably hired got let go for a dui and never coached here.

Point to me the post where I’ve absolved Matt Rhule of any sins here. He absolutely owns this and I’ve said as much.

I don’t buy the idea that Matt Rhule doesn’t give a shit about how good we are because his money is guaranteed.

Had he not cared about coaching football he could have sat his happy ass in North Carolina and raked in the same amount of money from the Panthers.

I think Donnie has done well with the OL. To be truthful, Satt has done “fine” with TEs. Barthel has been “meh” with RBs. McGuire has been awful with WRs and that spot might be the worst coached position on the team. Not sure on Thomas with QBs. I think it’s been “fine.” He’s down my list of priorities.

1) OC
2) Special Teams
3) WRs

Those are my top spots that need changes. McGuire might be a wiz kid. But right now he’s in charge of the worst coached position on the team and I’m not sure I’d be willing to give him the opportunity to learn on the job.

How much is Thomas involved in the coordination of the offense?

I think anyone who gives you an answer that is different than “I really don’t know” is not being 100% truthful. So I’ll tell you I really don’t know.

@Faux Sean Callahan and I believe that Satterfield was not calling plays in Q4 though. Who was? I’d probably say Thomas.

Raiola would absolutely end up in a G6 conference if he leaves
