The Matt Rhule era is still in the beginning stages. The team is set to begin spring football on March 20 which will be a critical time for laying the foundation of what’s to come under Nebraska’s new coach. Before we get to that we have learned a lot about how this staff wants to recruit. There have been some new areas of focus and the team is returning to old hot spots for talent.
Why not get the thoughts of our national analysts at Rivals about what we’ve seen from Rhule and his staff on the recruiting trail? Northeast national analyst Adam Friedman is up first.

What are your thoughts on the Matt Rhule hire for Nebraska?

"I think it's a great hire. He's known as a program builder. You saw how he did it at Temple and how he did it at Baylor. He gets these teams who have been performing at subpar levels up to respectable and somewhat very respectable level. These players that he brings in, they have traits and he brings in a staff who knows how to develop these players into really, really solid football players. Many of whom, end up playing at the next level as well. So he knows exactly what he's doing. He has the blueprint. You can already see it in action with how many players he's brought in and how much turnover there has been on the roster. He's not taking little baby steps here. He's making sure that he's working as quickly and as diligently as possible and bringing in as many new players as he can that really sets his style and what he sees his program turning into."

How do you see Rhule’s ability to rebuild programs playing out differently at Nebraska?

"It'll be interesting to see how much patience the Nebraska fan base has with this process. Obviously, Temple and Baylor are not programs with really high expectations for their football programs. At Nebraska, that's a different story. They've made a habit of firing coaches who can win 9 or 10 games over the last decade or so. That's not going to happen overnight for Matt Rhule. There's a lot of turnover on the roster and a lot of new players he needs to bring in. So the amount of patience Nebraska has for this rebuild process will be interesting to see. Hopefully, for Matt Rhule's sake, his reputation by some a little bit more time than some of his predecessors. We'll just have to see how that turns out.
"I will say that the changing landscape of the Big Ten could have an impact on that. Whether it's the new teams coming in, but also moving to a division-less format, could impact the win-loss record differently than his predecessors? You just have to see how those schedules turn out. How hard a road is it for him early on, versus after the program's had some time to really come into form."

What are your thoughts on Rhule and his staff being able to recruit in the Northeast?

"They've [Nebraska] had success in this region, even under previous coaching staffs and I think they're trying to leverage some of those natural connections that they have as a staff, but also those connections some of the players have to the East Coast. [Offensive Coordinator Marcus] Satterfield has been on the East Coast before. [Running Backs coach] EJ Barthel obviously on the East Coast. Even going down the list you can see guys who have had connections over here and have strong recruiting ties, like [Director of Player Personnel] Omar Hales. These guys have really helped bring guys like
Rahmir Stewart last year. They're going to turn over every rock or look everywhere they possibly can to bring in players who can add to this roster."

Who are a handful of recruits from your region that Nebraska is or should be recruiting?

They're not going to stop recruiting somebody like Kenny Woseley. Things are not necessarily trending in their direction for his decision this week. However, Imhotep is always a really, really talented program. Omar Hales and Matt Rhule have connections to that program going back years and years. They just got Rahmir Stewart last year so don't be surprised to see a consistent effort on their part for him over the rest of this recruiting process. It wouldn't be surprising to see them work hard to get some attention from somebody like Tyseen Denmark from Philadelphia. If you want to go with a splashy kind of name, take a look at maybe somebody like Dante Reno, he's the South Carolina quarterback commit, he's been recruiting very heavily for South Carolina. It would be surprising to see him even look somewhere else at this point. But Nebraska tried to get in with some New England guys in the past and Matt Rhule has had some success with New England guys. Of course, that all depends on what happens with Rhule's pursuit of Dylan Raiola and if they need to even pivot to a different quarterback. If Raiola did pick Georgia, it would be interesting to see what happens with Georgia quarterback commit
Ryan Puglisi who is also from New England. He could be a player that Rhule pivots to.

@Sous Chef spot on. Any discussion of Nebraska expectations without noting that the savior and our last best chance (lol) got 4+ years of losing seasons before we finally pulled the plug is silliness. We're coming up on almost a decade since we pulled the plug on a 9 win coach

I don't think the national/outsider writers have any conception of a) the politics involved in the hiring & firing of those 9 win coaches, or b) how completely any vestiges of that mentality has been eradicated from the fanbase & administration. It's been almost a decade.

They've fired one coach, one that could win 9 games, never won 10. And he did it in, at the time, the easiest division in football (Big 12 North) and then in the Big 10 when Michigan was down, Penn St was in shambles and Ohio St was being sanctioned by the NCAA. Lol

That narrative is so old.

This entire part is basically insinuating that Raiola goes to Georgia.

Puglisi is the current Georgia QB commit.

Not sure why Danny Woodhead supports us after we turned him down. He must be a great dude.
Danny grew up a Husker Fan and still is. Every mid-sized or bigger college pretty much didn't offer him, hence Chadron St landing spot. My mom is friends with his aunt and unlike some Husker Fans Danny does not appear to hold any ill will towards the Huskers.

Yes, Bo won 10 more than once.
What he never did, and probably what Bootleg is thinking of, is lose less than four games. Or more than four games, for that matter. He lost four games every year. Seven straight years. (If you count the bowls loss after he was fired)

It reminds me that one of those times Bo was rumored to go to another school is someone doctored the wikipedia of that school to show Bo as coach and put in his record for the next season as X-4. Because if you could bank on one thing with Bo, it was losing four games.

Thanks my mistake @SOHusker11

He never won 10 regular season games. Is that accurate? Or am I completely full of shit? Or both?

That was only 4 staffs ago and literally everyone in America at any reasonable level of football passed on him
Its one thing to not hold a grudge. It is a whole different level to go out of your way to tweet a recruit to look at Nebraska.
