That's actually encouraging to hear, jokes aside. I seem to be in the minority in this particular parenting department. However, she's now too big for her changing table/crib attachment deal, and she is getting close to too big for her crib anyway, so she signs are creeping up on mama for that big girl bed.

Both of our boys (6 and 4) now start in their own beds but also end up in ours before morning every night.

One thing that I liked on the 529 is that you can change the beneficiary at any point. So if I wanted to go and take more classes or continuing Ed, I could change it to myself and grab some money then change it back.

I thought I also have read that if the money doesn’t get used by my kid I could roll those funds into my Roth.

There are annual and total caps but yes you can roll over to Roth and change beneficiaries. I'd say most that have something left after kids go to college just move to grandkids.

Yeah it’s been in my family for generations. Eventually will be passed down to me and the real shame is I have no idea how to play.

My four year old told me today that he wants to play piano though so might look into getting him started after we’re back home. My dad also already has a guitar for him once he’s big enough for a full size.

I have 2 boys, 4 & 2. Everyday is a knock out, drag out fight. I found myself nodding along with about every post ITT. Parenting is hard as fuck, especially right now when their ELC is closed until January 6th. The wife stayed home today and I was blessed with going to the office.

How do yall feel about screen time for the littles? I’ve got cousins who let their kids watch tv for distractions and my wife is pretty adamant that we don’t. I side with not all the time but for getting stuff done around the house it is almost something we have to do, especially when the 2 year old is in a shit mood.

There are most days where we are zero or under an hour. Sick days and crabby days it creeps over an hour. Car rides sometimes too to keep her awake.

I'd like to be zero, but it doesn't work. The big ones watch a little while the little ones go down for nap

Random old man rants here. As soon as you can start to instill some work ethic in your kids. It doesn’t have to be anything big, household chores, keep their room clean, laundry, etc. It's ok to give them some responsibilities. Get them outside helping with things like scooping snow, raking leaves, helping mow the lawn. I know they are small and your not going to turn your 5 year old loose on the mower. But get them involved some way.

It's ok for your kids to get dirty or pick up a scratch or two. Keeping your kids in a bubble when they are young is not going to help them when they get older and have to deal with real life.

Whatever you can do to help them problem solve/troubleshoot different situations. It's amazing to see how many people there are from young to old that will tell you all the reasons they can't do something instead of trying to figure out how they can. Also could be work ethic here too.

Part of this is also to teach them how to be independent you're not always going to be around to help them or bail them out of different life situations.

Bonus: When they or anyone asks if they can help you instead of going "No I got it" actually give them something to do to help you.

That's great. I think that's one of the problems today is everyone is so busy we don't slow down a little and actually teach how to do things because it's faster to just do it ourselves.

I would love to go back and be with my grandparents and just learn how to do different things again.

That sounds absolutely miserable. I can count on 1 hand how many nights my kids (8, 5, 3) have slept in our bed. I don't think our kids even know it's an option...
