I also don't think a guy like Dana would even consider a losing battle like Oklahoma State.

Is Oklahoma State really a losing battle?

They have donor money.

They’re in a talent rich area in a mediocre conference you could win with a handful of good classes in a row.

They have a pretty loyal fanbase.

Houston and/or West Virginia both seem like bigger shitty deals to me as a potential head coach.

Granted, it’s not an elite and will likely never be an elite program, but it could be a lot worse.

I just looked it up and Dana’s buyout gets paid through the 27 season, so he might not be in a super big hurry to make the jump back to being an HC, if that’s his long term goal.

OK that was funny, but in my defense, I think they’ve got an agreement that Holgo has a lot of autonomy.
Ya I doubt Holgo would have come here if there weren’t some assurances from Rhule

I can see why he’s getting mentioned with his ties to the Big 12 but Brett McMurphy (OSU alum) ran through 8-12 candidates this morning on SXM. DH was not mentioned.

I thought I had read that the money isn't the same since old T Boone passed.

I like Dana but I don't think he's as hot of an item as he's being made out to be here. Unless NU was to go on a magical run over the next few seasons, I don't see him getting P4 offers. Even for other OC positions, what school is going to pay him more?

I thought he’d put a big nut in a trust that was to have a yearly payout to OSU. Now that may not be enough with the changes in the system since then, but who knows. I do know he’s not the only big dollar donor they had. Definitely the biggest, but they’ve still got oil money involved.

Obviously depends on what he wants to do long term. The feeling I've gathered has been he's burnt out being a HC.

I'd also add that Dana has never expressed interest coaching in the NFL and has coached exclusively in the college ranks for 30 years. Between jobs he's never been an analyst or assistant in the NFL. Seems strange that he'd jump at 54 but nothing would surprise me.
