Honestly, have you been that impressed with Rhule since he got here?

He got Dylan. Okay, that's good.

The defense was awesome last year, but how much of that what Rhule and how much of that was White?

We had a terrible collapse towards the end of last season to make a bowl. Not saying it will happen again this season, but if we lose out (holy moly) or if we win only 1 more game remaining on the schedule, are you really happy or impressed by the work?

A shit ton of us (outside of the sunshine pumpers) thought Rhule brought in a very underwhelming, inexperienced staff kinda like, I don't know, what Frost did. A lot of us thought that was a joke too and looky looky it was.

The recruiting rankings from what I understand is pretty similar to what Frost and Riley did.

Rhule thought Jeff freaking Sims was a sunday QB. He only turned out to be the worst QB in program history.

I get people don't want to be negative to just be negative, but couldn't one say Rhule has been far more disappointing thus far than good? I would say so.

  • We're still under 2 years with him. He has shown that he wants to build a solid foundation of good players and a lot of non-coaching staff decisions have really shown we're working towards that.
  • He doesn't hate the press or the local fanbase and shows he wants to be part of the culture.
  • He's holding his staff accountable for how the players go through things, as in run drills with them or stay in the dorms. 'Lead by what I do, not what I say.'
  • He's using the transfer portal and he's using ways to expand the roster to bring in solid depth.

That's a good starting point for what we need. Has it been disappointing so far with the on-the-field results? Yep.

But I'm going to mark that up as the college football game has changed since Rhule was at Baylor and he's still figuring out how to take on a bigger-boy conference with now multiple types of play (West Coast is more offense, midwest is more defense/control the clock) as well as the different elements of weather and how to use that to his advantage. Say what you want about Ferentz, but he knows how to use the elements of Cockeye and Nebraska to his advantage in gameplay.

I'm still N on him.

At what point does this becoming concerning? Because there were quite of few fans concerned about frost in year two and whenever those concerns were expressed it really upset the people with the rose colored glasses.

Nebraska fans say all the time that these things take time and that these coaches need multiple years and multiple classes to flip this. No they don't. Whenever Nebraska fans use that excuse, that's what it is. An excuse. It's a built in excuse until they realize that, yep, it's bad.

I think Rhule needs to fundamentally change the way he approaches building a program. When he was at Temple and Baylor, NIL didnt exist and the portal opened a year before he left for the NFL. Taking a bunch of 4th and 5th year players that have done a bunch a losing and think you can "develop" them into a consistent winner seems like it has a very low ceiling. He has maxed out what this core group of players can achieve. Not losing upper-classmen to portal isnt necessarily a badge of honor...maybe no one wanted them?

With the revenue sharing starting next year, I hope he adjusts his philosphy in terms of program building. As Indiana proved, bringing in transfers works if you bring in the right transfers with the right coaches.

2-21

B1G is littered with teams that any given week are top 25.

Given Rhule’s track record to “develop coaches”…

A. Do people honestly think his methods work against top tier recruiters and assistants in this league?
B. Does he have the ability bring in top tier assistants that are willing to be micromanaged?
C. He has yet to prove he can out coach good teams. A few good wins at temple and Baylor aren’t a track record.
D. Who on his staff is landing elite talent besides unc Dom (DR)

I was impressed with his organization and what seemed like the ability to get a lot of the youngsters on the field as well as give them reps in practice. He's gone downhill a lot.

There is morons on this board that think those 4th and 5th year players have talent and just need developed.

I'd say my main qualm with Rhule right now is the coach speak of being a physical, smash mouth football team, but then passing it 44 times against Indiana.

Physical? None of our skill players can beat a guy 1 on 1. Hell did we even have any YAC against Indiana?

And in regards to the run game, are we only running shotgun most every play because DR doesn't like going under center? I don't get it. Where are the play actions and roll outs from under center? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Our offense is so one dimensional with limited creativity getting to the perimeter that it doesn't even seem real.

Dirk can be a bit trollish but he's been right more than he's been wrong on NU football in the last 15 years. He's one of the few that wasn't afraid to call BS when the rest of the media towed the line. His point on Indiana is spot-on. I didn't even pick NU to win that game but never thought they'd get embarrassed like that.

I'm not out on Rhule but he's got a lot to fix.
