Fred currently sits at 80-103 (.437) as Nebraska’s head coach. Do you think he’ll be at NU long enough/be successful enough to have a .500+ career record in Lincoln?

If the current track holds, or even improves. Sure. He's got a longish contract yet, and can we get a better HC in a year (say next season goes horribly)?

Take next season for example - we lose by far our two best players (Brice and Juwan). Lose Morgan. I am probably forgetting one or two. Does our HS recruiting class look promising? How will replace our two best players? Tough task for next season. Don't want to rebuild be the Portal every season. Add via the Portal - sure, every program needs to do that.

So IDK if we can prognisticate the team we are right now W/L wise, will be consistent. Time will tell.

Mast, Berke, Sam and Essegian back. Hopefully one of the redshirts (Frager and Janowski) can play off the bench. Will need to get some scorers from the portal

The current bubble in the NCAA tourney is pretty bad, and its "bad" because a lot of potential 17, 18, or 19 High major teams are locks instead of being bubble teams.

That's mainly due to the portal and the NIL. The Elons of the World can't afford to pay even marginal NIL money compared to programs like Nebraska or Vanderbilt. IMO, the Huskers will always be competitive going forward, especially by Husker basketball standards.

I would think taking over Brice's role would be attractive

Easier said than done, though. Brice has NBA ability IMO. Doubt he gets drafted, he's old. He can absolutely be a G-League guy who gets called up, and has the size, length, guard skills and is a 3 level scorer. Thinking we will replace him with an unknown player yet to be named - tough to do. Juwan also brings a ton to the team (more this year than last by far). Losing those two is gonna be tough to replace. And expecting true Frosh to come in and even halfway fill those roles - I mean.

I'm concerned about next seasons roster. Mast will help, Berke should (hopefully ) improve some. Essegian is limited physically/athletically, but can and needs to be a better rounded player. Sam is Sam - very undersized, but hustles and does some good stuff. But like in today's game - Sam and Worster barely need to be guarded, we need players who need to be guarded on offense.

But we still have a good number of games this season, and today's win (looked like a sure loss over halfway through), really helps that quest to make the Dance. Fred will have to do some work to bolster the roster just from what we are losing off this seasons roster.

Yes, I believe he will. Once he figured out the correct staff, along with team cancers he's been quite good.

I wish Sam had a little brother coming up with the same moxie. It's amazing how his balls to the wall effort oftentimes changes the course of the game.

The answer is yes when you consider he was at 19% prior to the 2022-23 season.
I agree in theory, but it also means he needs to maintain his current level of success for a couple more years. Given how big and deep the conference has become and how much we seem to need to replace every season, there is always a decent chance for a down year here and there.

I tend to think he will as well, but to me it all comes down to a function of how long he stays here.

I think as long as his health remains, he'll be here long-term. It's a lower stress environment due to past history and expectations. Plus, N fans are generally OK winning 18-25 games annually.

Very mid in the portal. Still not sold on Fred. Drives me nuts watching how sloppy his teams can be. Given that he will be back next year I’d assume he’d get to .500
Mid?

Brice Williams
Juwan Gary
Reink Mast
Josiah Allick
Connor Essegian
Berke Buyuktuncel
Andrew Morgan

All major contributors on one of the best runs in Nebraska basketball history. Mid is the absolute worst description you could give it.

Brice, Gary and Mast have been good. The rest have under performed for what people thought we would get. Everyone on our team besides the top are very mediocre athletically and skill wise. Essegian has been cold almost all season long and can’t play defense. Berke really has just added some size but not much else. Morgan has had good moments but still makes a fair amount of mistakes. The fact he ever puts the ball on the floor is mind numbing. Rollie would okay D2 if he wasn’t 6’ 5”. Uhlis is useless on the offensive end. Liked Allicks energy but he wasn’t by any means a star. Fred had really good teams at ISU with transfers but saying he’s hit out of the park in Lincoln is a stretch not to mention all the bad transfers he’s taken and the guys with Nebraska ties he couldn’t land that are playing meaningful minutes on other teams. Pickle Smoochers is gonna land Dix and Freeman from Cockeye next year. They will have two immediate impact starters. Fred has barely done that over 5 years let alone in on transfer portal.

I know I’m pretty critical of Fred but at times it sure seems like he makes it easy to do.

Morgan and Allick played the role exactly how I expected. Neither were brought in to be stars. Still too early to judge Berke and Essegian imo. Both have shown flashes.

Rollie and Uhlis I would agree with you. Both have underperformed.

How much of that is due to NIL? Im guessing Pickle Smoochers has significantly higher NIL budget.

Lets clarify a few things:

- You're obviously biased against Fred for some odd reason because you're stretching here.
- Not every portal player is going to be a home run. If you're thinking that, you're going to be disappointed in every team in the country. Most (Essegian, Berke, Allick) are going to be role players. Those three examples, among others, have done their role quite well.
- The only one saying "hit it out of the park" is you. So the only stretching here is you.
- No one should really give a damn if the transfers have Nebraska ties or not. Would some of them be good to have? Absolutely. Would they have made a difference in, say, a tournament bid? Obviously not.

Again, we are on the verge of making the dance for the 2nd year in a row for the first time in 30 years. That doesn't happen at Nebraska, yet Fred is doing it. And you're trying to see he's mid. You're really just embarrassing yourself.

I think Fred is a fantastic corch. The problem his first 3 seasons was talent selection. Once he got rid of Matty and changed his philosophy on the type of players to target we've been cooking.

Aside from getting rid of Matty, his most important decision might have been recruiting Sam Griesel. That 2022-23 team that he led didn't make the tournament but they spanked Pickle Smoochers and finished that season on a good note which carried over to last year's success.

Agree about Morgan and Allick not needing to be superstars but plenty of capable players in the portal that can do the same. Wouldn’t call them solid work in the portal.

You’d be surprised. NIL at Pickle Smoochers isn’t crazy but they’ve been on a good run. Also helps Dix is from CB and they are better than Cockeye and Freeman is basically a shorter Cockburner.

lol I’m not the one saying he’s doing solid work. Fred’s missed on almost all of his first options the last two years. One from Omaha is gonna be All-ACC and get drafted. Chucky would at least control our offense and not have it die with the ball in his hands. Frankie would give us a third scoring option. You think they wouldn’t make a difference? That’s just three of the many others. Tonje put us in our place. Maybe you should ask who is embarrassing themselves. Fred had this team on the verge on missing the B1G tourney. Glad he turned it around but don’t act like it’s all sunshine and rainbows.
