I'd also have to push back on this point as well. I think it's a convenient excuse and not something based off any comparison with prior hires at UNL or other major universities.

But your overall point (as I see it): "Don't make contractual obligations when you don't have your leadership in place" I think is a wise practice.

Amazing that Fred's extension amidst the best basketball season in practically 30 years at NU is being seen as an issue. He was getting extended regardless if it was now or in 2 days and it isnt like we doubled his salary for a decade it was a simple basic extension that won't ruin the balance sheet one way or another.

Once again, absolute idiot checking in, but I'd imagine they at least pulse check AD candidates for whether they like the coaches who are currently in place.
