Gerrod Lambrecht?

Yeah Gerrod and Bruning will definitely operate this without any input or access gained based on their relationships with Scott and Matt. Totally independent. Just two guys hoping to make a difference in this world pulling themselves up by their bootstraps.

They’re not going to lose money. They have too much influence with the current team based on Gerrod’s relationship with Frost for them to lose money on a business with zero overhead costs.

But the real question is, do you think these two guys will continue operating this business if Frost isn’t the head coach? If not, then why not?

The number of people who start businesses in industries they have significant contacts and an already established network in approaches 100%. They’re not doing anything differently than what your average first time entrepreneur does.

The question is will they be successful? Who gives a fuck who’s who’s friend as long as they do a good job here? Business doesn’t and it’ll play out rather quickly.

Hopefully this truly is a way for us to funnel money from boosters to players. GL may have the relationships with some to do that and you said Bruing can get appointments (which is 75% of the battle in sales) with important people. So maybe they’ve already got a leg up.

I doubt that they just woke up last month and decided to do this.

It’s the same way I would describe a pastry chef applying for a business development role. There’s no reason whatsoever, outside of who they know, to assume they’ll excel at this.
Let’s be fair, most of life is about who you know. It happens everywhere.

People don’t start businesses with unfamiliar people in industries they don’t have already established networks in.
I get that and it probably benefits our players more at this point to get some deals with Gerrod. They are going to get most of their money locally because we aren’t very good. Those guys have good connections in the state. If we get good some of our players will have a lot of money coming in from across the country plus Gerrod’s group is just one avenue for the players to explore.

I give a fuck if they’ll be successful because they’re now the only hence our guys will have. The problem is that this isn’t a free market. Any sort of competition to this company puts football players in an awkward position. They would have to choose whether to allow their head coach’s two best friends to represent them or to go with someone else. Can you understand why that’s a tough spot to be in as a young kid?

There’s really only room for one big player in the local market NIL representation, and now we know that will be filled by a partnership between two guys with questionable experience. Not only that, their proximity to the head coach virtually assures they’ll sign any football player that they want, which effectively builds insurmountable barriers to entry for anyone else to work in this space.

I wonder how long before Matt Davison jumps on board with these guys. I would think it might be an opportunity he would consider now that Turd is the AD and will be for the foreseeable future.

You don’t think Matt will go down with the sinking ship?

I’m with @HCFord1 but I don’t really know what can be done about it.

I agree that it seems slimy, but the entire enterprise of NIL seems slimy. Conflict of interest? Sure, but is that even frowned upon anymore? I have to imagine a bunch of these kinds of “businesses” are popping up from people with the inside track at every program.

Until there is some kind of reins on NIL (which may never happen) or we have some actual professionals of the field wanting to dive in on their own accord, this type of stuff seems destined to be run by mob networks of hangers-on and corrupt politicians. It’s their natural habitat.

I don’t think there’s enough money to be made for any real competition to grow. This is and will remain a niche market.

If the University wants NIL to become a strength and a selling point to recruits then they need to get capable people involved and use assets like JB and GL to open the doors and make the connections as friends of the program. They need people who have worked in marketing and product endorsement with strong sales experience in that space. They need creative people who will push the envelope around the types of endorsements and campaigns that local businesses think are possible, who can help articulate why the relationship will help both parties. The university needs to play kingmaker here to a worthy company.

They don’t need two schmucks who only know the right people. Having under qualified people in important positions due to their relationship to Scott Frost is one of many reasons why we’ve been dogshit for three seasons.

This has nothing to do with value add for the businesses that are offering “endorsement deals”. This is basically coordinating boosters to pay the players.

Could we end up using NIL to basically give extra scholarships?

It seems like that is a multi-year play. Given that deals can't really be cemented until a player is on campus.
I was wondering if there would be some promises made when they hit campus some person or company will start paying their way? I’m sure you could probably do it after the first semester I would think. I think the NIL is the best way for us to get back to a top 10-20 program if we have people who know how to push the limits in the AD.

Two potential issues seem to be 1) a credibility problem in which anyone good will want to guaranteed ship right away and the marginal scholarship guys aren't worth the hassle of "faking" NIL value and 2) the NCAA cracking down and saying you can't do that.

I was seeing it as a way to take some players Nebraska couldn’t make the numbers work for like Payton last year or the kid from NP this year.
