Gerrod Lambrecht?

For some reason this whole thing is really rubbing me the wrong way. I posted this in an RSS thread about it:

This is as swampy as it gets. What we need is a company driven by experienced professionals who are capable of showing the value of investments like these to local businesses and corporations. What we’re getting is a nepotistic group of gatekeepers who will help a handful of athletes on the margins while collecting an easy check. What does it say about the state that our program is in when the perceived two most capable people to run this operation are only qualified based on being best friends with our head coach? This group of bros must truly think they can conquer the world because they refuse to look beyond arm’s reach for help regardless of the challenge.

I really hope they put together a solid, capable team and let them do the real work on behalf of the athletes, because I don’t think these two actually have any business doing anything other than getting a meeting on the books.

This just wreaks of an opportunistic way to make some extra dough while their BFF is still head coach. I guess it’s good they’re getting started because depending on the results upcoming that well could dry up really fucking quickly for them.

Maybe they really do want to help the kids, but the fact that they and, presumably Frost, think that they’re the best candidates to make it happen just about obliterates any hope that I’ve had that there’s been any sort of self-reflection or wisdom gained from past mistakes by our head man.

I agree with you, but it was going to end up this way as soon as NIL became a thing.

I guess I don’t see it that way. I can’t even explain in good detail what OpenDorse or ABM does, so I can’t form the best opinion in the world on how anyone qualifies for this position.

But it’s not like any players are going to be forced to sign with GL’s company. This is just one option and GL is either going to sink or swim.

If GL and Bruning see this as an easy way to make money, the only way for them to do that is to make their clients money. While I’m guessing everyone’s objective when they start a business is to make money, but if these two make a lot of money it means the kids are as well. Which means it’s good for everyone.

I don’t think there’s enough money to be made for any real competition to grow. This is and will remain a niche market.

If the University wants NIL to become a strength and a selling point to recruits then they need to get capable people involved and use assets like JB and GL to open the doors and make the connections as friends of the program. They need people who have worked in marketing and product endorsement with strong sales experience in that space. They need creative people who will push the envelope around the types of endorsements and campaigns that local businesses think are possible, who can help articulate why the relationship will help both parties. The university needs to play kingmaker here to a worthy company.

They don’t need two schmucks who only know the right people. Having under qualified people in important positions due to their relationship to Scott Frost is one of many reasons why we’ve been dogshit for three seasons.

What makes you say they are schmucks and incapable?

It’s the same way I would describe a pastry chef applying for a business development role. There’s no reason whatsoever, outside of who they know, to assume they’ll excel at this.

That’s not really an answer to that question though. You appear to have knowledge of both of their backgrounds as you’ve formed a pretty sharp opinion.

That being said, what did or didn’t you find that has brought you to this conclusion?

Gerrod professional career has centered around operations in the healthcare industry, specifically nursing homes. He was a was a strategy consultant for Home Care Providers when Frost rescued him and made him Chief of Staff. I don’t doubt the guy can execute a plan, but I question whether he’s the guy to come up with the plan that launches Nebraska to the forefront of the NIL conversation and earns a ton of money for the athletes. I mean, the guy has never had a job that didn’t involve either fiber supplement supply chains or working for his best friend. He’s also never worked in Nebraska outside of his chief of staff role, so I doubt that he’s THAT connected.

Bruning is an attorney whose political career fizzled out. Not really sure what he brings to the table other than being able to get onto people’s calendars.

If I told you that you had to launch a service that would connect athletes to local businesses for marketing purposes while raising the overall profile of the Nebraska football program, would those two guys even get an interview?

Opendorse is a platform that connects people/companies to athletes for endorsement purposes.

Want to have CTB tweet about your product send an offer/request through opendorse and CTB can decide to accept or not. If he does, you can complete all the paperwork directly through the platform. Done.

So, send me an invite and I will tweet about how much I love @SantaBarbaraSker s yacht for example and that everyone should have one because it makes your wife crazy.

Edit: And @Jim14510 isn’t really gay. Bi for sure, but not gay.

I’m not sure why you think that two guys starting a business that is independent of the university means anything about anyone involved with the university or is such a bad thing.

GL just quit his 400k/yr job with the university to start this business. If he does better than that with this that means the athletes he works work are making some serious money. Which is good thing.

You do realize the only way this business survives is if the athletes they work with make money, right?

Yeah Gerrod and Bruning will definitely operate this without any input or access gained based on their relationships with Scott and Matt. Totally independent. Just two guys hoping to make a difference in this world pulling themselves up by their bootstraps.

They’re not going to lose money. They have too much influence with the current team based on Gerrod’s relationship with Frost for them to lose money on a business with zero overhead costs.

But the real question is, do you think these two guys will continue operating this business if Frost isn’t the head coach? If not, then why not?
