Future of the Offense

I agree, just feels like a time-suck and for whatever reason doesn't pay dividends for us. Pretty annoying.

We’ve gotten better at it this year. There’s quite a bit of yardage that Ervin has left on the field because he really doesn’t know what he’s doing.

I’m not faulting anyone for this, but we do miss Ajay Allen and he’d likely be our best back by a very wide margin.

If we can hold on to Lacy I think he can be pretty good

This is kind of what I expected as far as the variety of answers we are getting.

It’s safe to say that we simply don’t know what’s going on offensively and what Matt Rhule actually wants.

Is this a problem?
If we could, this simplest way to get any idea of what Rhule is saying he wants is to simply ask Kaelin and Manske what the coaches have told them is the plan for how they'd be used.

They are both similar in that they are 6'3", around 200 lbs, and have run very, very little in HS. Doesn't mean they can't run, but it suggests we aren't looking for a QB who runs a lot.

Satt recruited Dante Reno to the 2024 class at S Carolina, He also runs very little.

Allen appears to be 3rd string at Miami

In total carries he is tied for the most, but it is bloated because he got a lot carries against Bethune-Cookman. But not against A&M or even Miami OH

Does Allen see a situation like this and run for 3 yards? Or is he capable of seeing this and bending it back and being 1v1 with the safety?

There are countless situations just like this where Ervin leaves so many yards on the field where a different runner like Ajay showed capable of being makes a cut and is 1v1 with someone at the second level.

While nobody will mistake this OL for 05 USC or 1995 Nebraska, they are constantly criticized for what truly amounts to Ervin not being good enough.

I am not a big Ervin fan either. We had a mediocre stable of backs even when Ajay was here.

I think the response we are seeing to your very valid Ervin point is a resurgence in the use of Grant.

HOLY SHIT

***Rhule said Jeff Sims practiced Sunday night. No decision on his status for La Tech will be made until after Thursday's practice.

***Rhule said running back Rahmir Johnson dislocated his shoulder and will miss the season.

***Rhule said Gabe Ervin Jr. suffered a hip injury and would miss the rest of the season.

***Cornerback Dwight Bootle also suffered a season-ending injury.

***After Anthony Grant, Rhule said Emmett Johnson and Kwinten Ives would be counted on to provide RB depth. They'll have to see what happens after that in the RB rotation. "All hands will be on deck."

***Rhule said Johnson was "really smart, highly competitive" and has "that mindset" to do whatever is asked of him. On Ives, Rhule called him a "big, powerful" I-back who was still learning the offense but had been working hard on mastering the playbook.

***On Grant, Rhule said he was never "in the dog house" despite not playing at Colorado. Ball security was a big message to him after that game, and Grant responded with a great week leading up to NIU. "It's his show now."

***Rhule said he went through a lot of quarterback changes with the Carolina Panthers but not much in college. He said the biggest thing was playing the guys who gave the team the best chance to win. "We don't want guys feeling like we have a quick trigger on them."

What the fuck. @TheSimulation

So three games into the Matt Rhule era, we’ve seen what the offense is probably going to look like this year. I think we all can agree that this isn’t how the offense is suppose to look. But here we are.

My question is where do you think Rhule goes with it? Based on the type of QB we are recruiting does it give you any ideas?

All I know is that in three years we can’t be having this conversation about what our offense is suppose to look like or what we want our identity to be.

Rhule has done, in my opinion, an extremely good job with this program since he got it. But this is the area that certainly needs the most attention.
It is very weird to me that we are a "power based spread option team...." and we recruit Danny Kalien.

I think the 2016 Temple offense gives us the best idea of what Rhule wants to do

“Power based spread option” sounds like a term Rhule made up to satisfy literally every fan that hears him.
Term to cater to the fullback lovers.

And why they're recruiting a guy like Kaelin...I don't know, but it certainly doesn't bode well for Q read and run game....which I personally covet.

I watched UTSA vs Army last week & both offenses looked great. They were both a carbon copy of what we want for our offense, a smashmouth running game in conjunction with a potent vertical passing attack. Army's OC Drew Thatcher was the OC at UNK from 2019-2021 as well. I'm pretty sure we could have either team's OC for peanuts compared to what we're paying Satterfield.

I officially have no idea what Rhule or Satterfield wants. Which I think is bad. I don’t want to look like MSU did when Cook left and they could play defense but their offense was absolute horse shit.
