Well you don’t send the drunk, but you definitely send some reps when it is a Raiola who has their family there expecting a meeting. Clearly there were not better things for (at least some of) the staff to be doing. No it it was egitimately because you're drunk on margaritas. If it's because there's other things you could be doing then I wouldn't blame him for not wasting his time.
Jim, it’s easier if we all just take our medicine from Papa ToneYou have a mutual friend of Frost or someone else has a mutual friend to Frost that told you?
Getting into weeds neither of us know the answer to. Very well could have been someone there or he offered to send someone else. Story is that Frost specifically called and said he wasn't going to make it.Well you don’t send the drunk, but you definitely send some reps when it is a Raiola who has their family there expecting a meeting. You’re spot on with Mathis. I have no clue on Casey.I don't know if we will ever know because of how NIL is set up. The NIL companies like ABM are private entities and even if the schools knew I doubt they could share the financial information without the players consent. I think all we can go off of is boosters talking when it comes to players like Thompson & Mathis. In my ABM/Gerrod battles with Pimp-Master Dean when he was at Rivals he claimed that 4-5+ players made 6 figures off of NIL. I think it was mentioned that Martinez made the most at it was around $180,000. The numbers that were biunced around on message boards and by boosters were pretty substantial for Thompson & Mathis. I want to say Thompson was in the million plus category. I think they hooked him with housing and a sweet ride plus some serious coin. I was told that they thought the total was around $600,000 for Mathis. Thats seems about right for one of the leading pass rushers in the Big 12.
Looked pretty competitive in 2021......any idea what we're at right now? You’re spot on with Mathis. I have no clue on Casey.
On a related note, Frost candidly told a few friends of mine that they need ~$12 million/year in NIL to be competitive.
That would not surprise me one bit if Frost thought $12 mill was what was needed. College football is turning into a money game if we want to keep up with OSU, Mich & Penn St. Look at what TEX A&M has been throwing around for coin. If it continues like this I could see a scenario where it might be in our best interest to mainly recruit local kids and then hit the transfer portal spending our NIL money there. If the NCAA continues to only allow 1 Free Transfer in the Portal then someone who has already transferred that starts playing well isn't as likely to jump ship for more money as they would have to sit out a season. Highly paid high school recruits can walk to another payday if they aren't playing after a year or 2 without having to sit out. You’re spot on with Mathis. I have no clue on Casey.

I'm not sure we can hang with the top tier long term but we should be at the top of tier 2.That would not surprise me one bit if Frost thought $12 mill was what was needed. Take it for what it is worth but a booster who has been involved with NIL passed on that he was told boosters/companies dolled about $5 million that went to ABM but ABM has only spent $2 mill so far on players. Again so I don't get jumped on again by the Naysayers it was what I was told by someone who generally has good info from his long time ties to supporting the program. So that would leave us about $3 mill minus ABM expenses that still could be used towards players.
I have been really negative about ABM because I see the potential power of the Husker Nation when it comes to NIL. Talking to my friends who have kids playing for other Power5 football teams most schools don't have nearly the financial support we have from generous boosters. If we could get a top rate NIL company uniting our boosters & players we could buy so many more players than our neighboring Power5 schools. KU, KSU, ISU, Colorado, Minnesota, Mizzou, Wisc & Cockeyes don't have nearly the fan financial support we have. We can pay as much as anyone.
My KU connections are complaining about how little financial support they have from alumni, and it is even worse at KSU. One buddy has a son who was a starter at Kansas and he literally made like $50/month during the season pimping out some Wing Restaurant as his only NIL deal. We joked about sponsoring him just for fun at one of my brothers businesses. I know quite a few of KU's biggest boosters and it will be interesting to see if they start stepping up financially for football like they have for basketball over the years.
8-9 wins a year on pure good coaching alone should be enough to make our power boosters fork out what they need to for next level recruits.I'm not sure we can hang with the top tier long term but we should be at the top of tier 2.
A&M reportedly spent 30 million on last year's class. We don't have that kind of money.8-9 wins a year on pure good coaching alone should be enough to make our power boosters fork out what they need to for next level recruits.
ooooo.....you win lolA&M reportedly spent 30 million on last year's class. We don't have that kind of money.
The top tier is a small group.
I want to disagree but there really is no way we can hang with the Oil Money in Texas or the some of the areas that have big industries or are heavily populated.I'm not sure we can hang with the top tier long term but we should be at the top of tier 2.
We need a certain 92 year old to endow the Big Red Collaborative with a half billion or so.A&M reportedly spent 30 million on last year's class. We don't have that kind of money.

We still just don't have the money. Oklahoma there's really Oklahoma and Oklahoma St and there's twice as many people. I'd probably put Oklahoma in that tier 2 group as well. If they're ahead of us it isn't much.I want to disagree but there really is no way we can hang with the Oil Money in Texas or the some of the areas that have big industries or are heavily populated.
But we have a united state that is so passionate about football. Even states like Oklahoma may have Oil Money but they have 3 schools (Oklahoma, Oklahoma St & Tulsa) that split their fanbase. Same with Cockeyes, Kansas and Colorado where they don't have one team that unites the state. Call me a Sunshine Pumper but we have one of the most passionate fanbases in the country which gives us so much power.
Look at us idiots having memberships to multiple football boards when our team hasn't had a winning team in over 6 seasons. Win or lose we care about Nebraska football. I've lived all over the country and see Husker flags, bumper stickers, t-shirts in Chicago, Cali, Phoenix, Denver, Vail..... Heck when we use to play KU we would transform The Hawk Bar it into a Husker Bar for the weekend. We paid the Sidetrack Band from Lincoln to play and it was a Sea of Red all weekend. Husker Headquarters for the weekend. Was the busiest weekend of the year for The Hawk, by a large margin. KU people would get pissed that the bar named after their mascot turned into a Husker Bar that weekend but fuck them as the Nebraska fans came in spending mad coin.
We have so much power in our rabid fanbase, it just needs to be harnessed. We need the right leadership, hence the reason I have been bashing on Frost, ABM and some boosters. If Turd can clean up the swamp and get the right football coach we can be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to NIL.
He could make a hell of a dent in the problem but he won't.We need a certain 92 year old to endow the Big Red Collaborative with a half billion or so.
Why are rich Nebraskans such cunts? He could make a hell of a dent in the problem but he won't.
Agree that Buffett won’t do it. On a positive note, the oldest (not the wealthiest but still 10 figures) money around is a huge Nebraska fan.We still just don't have the money. Oklahoma there's really Oklahoma and Oklahoma St and there's twice as many people. I'd probably put Oklahoma in that tier 2 group as well. If they're ahead of us it isn't much.
I agree with your overall point that our fanbase is rabid and pound for pound I'd put us up against anybody including Ohio St. There's just so much more money backing Ohio St that we literally can't compete.
We have some wealthy people but we don't have any/much old money like schools in the south/southeast/northeast. Old stupid money. Our oldest money which isn't very old is Buffett and he has very little to do with football.
Who'd they work for?Agree that Buffett won’t do it. On a positive note, the oldest (not the wealthiest but still 10 figures) money around is a huge Nebraska fan.
