First 5 games

I don't think Mel coached circles around Frost. I think the team just mentally crumbled with the "oh here we go again...."
I was there. It was hot and with the elevation difference the defense ran out of gas in the second half. That game was on the offense. We should have been up 24 or 31-0 going into halftime, but the offense missed key opportunities early on and Martinez was horrible the second half and Frost went into a shell with his play calling. No fear of failure died that day.

Iirc it took till the 3rd was almost over before they got a first down. Offense did the defense no favors

Shit, I don't even know if 2018 is where to look. I'd still say UCF 2017. UCF used empty sets+4 WRs constantly and were super aggressive in the vertical passing game. We haven't really had the depth at WR to do that all since Frost has been here. Look at the receiving stats for UCF 2017 (Otis Anderson played Wandale's position) v. NU 2018. Shit. Warner started 7 games in 2018. That's not the way it's supposed to look.

I don't think we will see as much 4wr sets going forward. Their best room on offense is TE. Do you really want to limit them?

11 personnel. First number is number of backs. Second number is number of TEs.

they took away JD and then we had zero. we threw a deep ball (pick) to Noa late that Stanley Morgan catches 90% of the time. It fucked him up

The Illinois DC was at Mizzou last year. He’s a 4-2-5 guy who plays with 3 safeties and they’re trying to blend that scheme with Bielema’s 3-4. They simply don’t have the horses to run what they want to on defense and they’ve got a kicker playing WR and a WR playing kicker on offense.
Sets up perfectly for a typical Nebraska meltdown.

Yeah, to be fair I don't know how many times you would actually see a true 4 WR look from UCF. Akins was one of their best offensive weapons and they got 850 yards from the TE position. Ideally you're seeing that as a hybrid position in this offense and I think that's what we'll see out of Allen this year. I just don't know that we have ever really done something like run saints / 4 verts out of empty outside of a hand full of times here.

Agreed 100%

Agreed with you here. I’d have really liked to have seen Fidone in that spot this year some as well. Really upsetting he got hurt.

Yeah dude. I had the same thought after watching some UCF. It's pretty telling that Frost was showing Fidone cut-ups of Oregon/UCF and telling him this is what they wanted to do at TE. Dude should be a monster at the position once he's healthy. Fucking sucks before that though.

God I hope she got the D
There was a follow-up on that gif several years ago on tMB. IIRC, she's a married (to a white guy) suburban housewife in either IL or IN with a couple of kids. Whether she closers her eyes and dreams of someone else while her husband does work is a matter for endless speculation, but her actual life story turned out to be pretty benign.
