First 5 games

Fuck that is the game I am worried about.

Illinois we should be focused and just frankly more talented.
FU and BWWu should just be better
OU is a top 4 team
Sparty seems like the game where we piss our pants
I'm by no means a sunshine pumper. However, this Nebraska team has much more talent than Illinois and Michigan St. and have no business losing to either of them. But I was in the stands in Boulder two years ago and watched Mel Tucker coach circles around Frost in the second half. We have no idea what this Nebraska team is going to do.

This is exactly how I feel.

They should get to 3-0
Go to OU and give them hell
Then starts the next stretch of games.
  • Sparty
  • NW
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Purdue
I think all of those games are very winnable, but should be a lot of tight games. Winning vs sparty would be good to get some momentum

Then you have your back 3
  • OSU
  • Wiscy
  • Cockeyes
need to win at least 1 here this year IMO.
I think that MSU and Northwestern are the two most important games of the season for us. Both games we should win, but they will be close. We have to get over the mental issues. If we start the season 5-1 heading into our Michigan game then our season gets really exciting.

Sparty and NW you should get. Sparty is still awful on offense and the book is out on Mel Tucker defensively. For the NW game, the away team hasn’t won a single game in the Frost vs Fitz matchup. If you could get to 5-1 when Michigan gets to town you’ll likely have two top 25 teams battling it out at night in Lincoln. Really gotta like the chances then.
And Northwestern has a new DC and lost a lot of talent.

He really didn’t coach circles around Frost. There wasn’t one play or call that I looked at and said “Man that Mel Tucker drew that one up well there.”

That game was almost 100% about Adrian being really bad at his reads against zone in the second half and trying to win the Heisman trophy on every throw. I could go back through the tape and show all of the yardage he left on the field in the second half alone and maybe I will later this evening.

1. Illinois is going through a complete system change. We should have beat them last year. We will win this game by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

2. We will beat Fordham by 4 or 5 touchdowns.

3. Buffalo has been good but they lost their coach, their coaching, and a bunch of their players to Kansas. We will win this game by several touchdowns.

4. We will lose to Oklahoma by 1 or 2 touchdowns.

5. We will beat Michigan State by 1 or 2 touchdowns. They're still in rebuilding mode, but Tucker will have them ready to play.

We will start the season 4-1.

Id love for this, obviously the record and not getting blown out by OU.... but Nebraska winning the first 2 games each by 3-5 touchdowns would be amazing for Nebraska fan's mental health. (and hopefully the team/coaching staff)

Frost has only had 4 wins of 21+ points (didn't get non-conf. games in 2020 tho so... could have/probably would have been more)

2020 wins = 30-23 v. PSU (that first half tho), 37-27 v. Purdue, 28-21 v. Rutgers

2019 wins = 35-21 v. South Alabama, 44-8 v. Northern Illinois, 42-38 v. Illinois, 13-10 vs. NW, 54-7 v. Maryland

2018 wins = 53-28 v. Minnesota, 45-9 v. Bethune Cookman, 54-35 v. Illinois, 9-6 v. Michigan State

*Mike Riley only had 6 21+ wins* (easier schedule and more talented teams but still few and far between)

2015 = 48-9 v. South Alabama, 49-25 v. Minnesota

2016 = 43-10 v. Fresno St., 52-17 v. Wyoming, 28-7 v. Maryland

2017 = 28-6 v. Illinois

I don't think Mel coached circles around Frost. I think the team just mentally crumbled with the "oh here we go again...."

agree, but have seen close to 0% history under HCSF "taking care of the little things..." 🙁

Im referring almost exclusively to specials when I talk about the little things. I think with the added emphasis, depth on the roster that should allow us to play more talented and experienced kids, and the coaching experience that has their eyes on these teams we’ll be better there.

I don’t have a silver bullet point to combat what you’re saying, but I can try to explain where my optimism comes from.

The whole Frost era has been weird & disappointing. Wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if we start out 3-0, bunch of hype for Oklahoma, we heavily rely on Frost’s crafty QB run plays & AM gets hurt which leads to 1-1 or 0-2 against MSU/NW.

You have to think adding a kicker who had a 60+% touchback rate and a long of 63. Yes his actual long is 70, but that was with a big ass wind storm.

You have your Aussie punter back healthy.

Kick return is better if you just fair catch it.

You have the B1G kicker of the year.

I also think investing Dawson and Busch should help a ton.

Until I see it on the field, I have no doubt we will either piss Illinois or Michigan State away, maybe both. I do like our history vs MSU and their style of offense makes me think we will win that game as long as we don't shoot ourselves in the foot, which we often do.

BlowU is a definite loss. We *should" beat both Buffalo and Fordham .. if we don't, then I just give up.

I see 3-2 realistically, 2-3 is going to be another long season. I'd be elated with 4-1

I'm optimistic with ST's, too. 1) It can't get much worse, and 2) returning kicker of the year, lots of athletic LB's and S's on the roster, which usually fill ST's, 3) more dedication to the 3rd phase - which is also scary that we weren't really taking it seriously before, 4) adding some strong legged deep ball kickers for kickoffs which is basically a prerequisite in big boy football now.

Dude, I hope so. Trust me, I know we "should" win that game. We're favored, this is an experienced team at key positions (although Illinois has even more "super seniors"), Illinois has a new staff, etc. . We should have won that game last year, though. We DEFINITELY should have won the Minnesota game with their team decimated with COVID hold-outs. There have been a number of such games. You just can't assume at this point, and if anything, you should assume that over a five-game stretch, they're going to lose one that they shouldn't.
I agree that we could eat shit in lots of games, but if Frost can't win against the shit teams this season it's over so I don't really worry about it

I want to know when the fuck we won't be in the top 5 for toughest schedules again, it's brutal.

The Big 10 giving Maryland and Rutgers money upfront and easy schedules vs. fvcking over Nebraska for a decade will always be amazing to me but not surprising given most Universities in the Big 10 do not care about sports and think they are a diet coke Ivy League school.

"Ugh there are some men at the bar next door watching the Sports-ball on the television. They are so loud I can't hear the sommelier tell me the wine special." -- 3/4 of Big 10 Universities

Momentum is everything, we beat Illinois and then the next two scrubs, we should be in good shape for the rest of the year. Illinois is a huge game, As crazy as it sounds, that might be the most important game of Frost's tenure at Nebraska so far.

Lose that game and it could spiral quickly. I'm nervous af about that game.
