Fidone benched

Every injury is different. It is wildly ridiculous for you to say this as you dig your heels in on this point.
I've had two myself. it's not a muscle tear, it's a structural issue in the knee and once repaired there isn't an issue. People were way overhyping him before the injury and claiming the injuries took away athletic ability that was never there. He wasn't fast before the injuries. I think it's wildly ridiculous to claim he was great before he played a down and say that the only reason he isn't great now is because of injuries. Orthopedic surgery has come a long ways since Gayle Sayers, shoot it's come a long ways since I had mine reconstructed.

You are right every injury is different, but I didn't see a very different athlete before or after the injuries. He is what he is.

I don’t think I’m the one claiming he was destined for anything one way or the other. You are. Quite frankly I don’t give a fuck about Fidone.

It’s very interesting to know that no ACL injury or even two of them will ever affect another human’s athletic potential moving forward.

You don't lose athletic ability because of a ACL reconstruction..

A simple google search shows this to be wrong.

From the article:

“Despite outcome studies after ACLR in elite athletes showing a high return-to-sport rate, these studies also show that very few athletes are able to return to sport at the same level of performance. They also show that those athletes who undergo ACLR have careers that are more short-lived in comparison to those without injury.”

Fidone’s straight line speed is the same as it ever was. And he was always probably slow to get going ie., a slow 10y dash but a quick 40y dash. But lots of tight ends are built that way, that doesn’t make you a top 50 recruit. It was his twitch and lateral quickness that set him apart. I assume that’s what’s been most affected by his ACL and that’s what you see today. Big lumbering body with no twitch

The problem with the Fidone benching, if it was that, is the timing and inconsistently applying the same consequences across other positions. How many times has Benhart false-started in a crucial situation this year? 3 at least that I can think of. So is the standard the standard for everyone? Is the dropoff at RT so large that you have to live with Benhart making a bonehead mistake similar to what Fidone did? And if Boerk is simply a better option, why are you just now making the move?

In my opinion, I think Fidone not playing had to do with Boerk and Lindenmeyer being better blockers and really not giving up much as pass catchers.

Because there's a new sheriff in town, and his name is Holgs.

I think you're right that it comes down to the level of who would replace them.

Also agree with True Colors that Dana was prepared to RTDB against Wisconsin's shitty run D and the other two tight ends are better blockers so that was probably a factor too.

It's funny...when I played Catholic school football back in the day (JR high) I actually got benched at the TE position for the better blocking TE. I was a 100x better receiver, but at that level you're doing 90% running plays so who cares. They actually didn't bench me, they moved me to left end (we ran all our running plays to the right). But the right end got all the passing routes, so left end was a F-U/demotion.

The idea of a receiving TE being benched for a better blocking TE is as old as time. It's one of the most common things going on in any football roster.

Anyone that's been around football has seen this happen 1,000 times.
