***It was interesting to hear President Donald Trump talk on Thursday morning with Clay Travis about the Big Ten decision. His office had over 300 phone calls on the Big Ten situation, and he called Commissioner Kevin Warren a very “good guy” that wanted to get it figured out and bring football back. Trump also said the minute those stadium campaign ads started running the day after the season was canceled in August that really upset him and motivated him to at least do what he could to be an advocate for the Big Ten. I am not trying to make this about politics, just thought it was interesting to hear what the President had to say on the topic itself.

I do know last week on Thursday Warren told the coaches on the Big Ten call they have the tests from White House if they want them, but because of the politics involved they probably won’t take them up on their deal. That’s why Warren didn’t reveal the testing company yesterday when asked. They are still trying to get their own deal locked up to keep the perception of politics out of it.

***Teams in the Big Ten can’t put on full pads until the Big Ten’s rapid testing program is up and running, so it probably won’t be until Sept. 30.

In the meantime, NU will have their own in-house rapid testing up and running by today or tomorrow where they can begin daily rapid testing their players to get a better feel of how things will be going forward.

***I can tell you on Monday when head coach Scott Frost was briefed on the medical protocols and what they would be, he was not too excited. Obviously, there is a lot of red tape around getting to Oct. 24.

***I do think Nebraska has prepared better than any team in the Big Ten right now in terms of lifting and being able to practice, etc. Not every team has taken the approach of Nebraska. Purdue just started getting back, and Minnesota really has not been doing much.

***Speaking of Oct. 24, NU was under the impression it was going to be Oct. 17 all the way up until the news broke Wednesday morning. I think that was the one frustrating things about all this, that the coaches and football staffs have been completely kept in the dark. The joke is the national college football writers were more in on the discussion than any of the football coaches, and that was a real frustration point.

***I fully expect the Dec. 18-19 games to be played at multiple dome sites like Minneapolis, Indianapolis and Detroit. This will allow for games to be played on both Friday and Saturday night as well, as there is no way the Big Ten would have night football games at home venues that time of year. I’ll also be curious how many night games in general they play. I’d imagine we will see night kicks on Oct. 24, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 for sure. After that, will they play night kicks Nov. 14 and beyond? History says no, but on the other hand you do not have to worry about fans. There is also expected to be a heavy line-up of Friday night games.

As for the Dec. 18-19 games, a Big Ten source said a possible set-up would be two Friday night games on Dec. 18, two 11 am games on Dec. 19, two more later afternoon games and then a prime-time championship game on FOX.

***I can tell you Nebraska was fully prepared to play games in Oct. 3 and Oct. 10. They had contingency deals lined up with some FCS teams if the Big Ten would’ve allowed schools to play a non-conference game or two. There are obviously a lot of FCS and lower level Group of Five teams looking for pay days right now.

I do think it would’ve made since to let Big Ten teams play one FCS game on Oct. 10 to shake off some rust and get a handle on the new protocols.

***Here are a few things I have heard about the team over the last few weeks:

Running back: Rahmir Johnson has gotten a lot of time with the top units and will be the guy along with Dedrick Mills. I’ve heard a lot of good things too about Sevion Morrison.

Wide Receiver: Omar Manning is kind of what you expect – a ready-made guy. As far as South Dakota grad transfer Levi Falck is concerned they have already said he is much, much better than Kanawai Noa a year ago. He goes “very hard” and is extremely competitive. He doesn’t back down from the top DBs and wants to compete. Ty Hahn has also been a surprise and has seen time with the No. 2 offense. Alante Brown is obviously going to be the real deal, as is Marcus Fleming.

Offensive line: Bryce Benhart is working No. 1 right tackle and Matt Farniok No. 1 right guard. Boe Wilson is the No. 1 left guard. Colorado State transfer Nouredin Nouili will have a good chance to be a starter early in his career here.

Defensive line: Have been told this group is better than people think. Ty Robinson is a beast and has been working a lot of nose. The length and size is the best NU has had in a few years, especially since running a 3-4.

Linebacker: I’m not expecting Eva Mauga to be a two-deep guy. The free year is going to really help him. Today right now the top four is fairly set in Will Honas, Collin Miller, Luke Reimer and Nick Heinrich. Then Zach Schlaeger and Garrett Snodgrass would be the next two.

As for outside linebacker, I’ve heard good things about Nikko Cooper and his athletic ability.

***I still remain very confident that Nebraska is in a great place to land a commitment from Tennessee cornerback John Howse IV. However, it does seem that he has pushed his timeline back a bit. I exchanged a few messages with him the other day and he said that he didn't have a concrete decision date in mind, but that he hoped he would be able to come to a decision sooner rather than later. Of course, he would not tell me if there was a team in the lead or someone that he was leaning hard towards at the moment, but he did tell me that Nebraska was still very much a school under his consideration. I thought he would have committed by now, but it appears that we will have to wait a bit longer until we find out for sure where he is going to go.

***There are a handful of 2022 quarterbacks that the Huskers are after right now, but one in particular to keep an eye on is Gavin Wimsattout of Owensboro, Kentucky. The Rivals100 QB is someone that Huskers QB coach Mario Verduzco has been in touch with and has gotten the interest of the talented junior.

***I continue to think that NU's first 2022 commitment might just come from out of state. On Monday, 2022 tight end Max Whisner out of Lee's Summit, Mo. will be making his decision. I honestly don't have a great read on which way he will be leaning and he could very well end up being a Husker in just a few days. However, as of today, I think that linebacker Gavin Meyers out of Hays, Kansas could be the first one to pull the trigger and get the 2022 class started. He's definitely someone you should be keeping an eye on.

***This week has been pretty wild to say the least. The last 5-6 weeks have been, actually. It's funny though because on Tuesday night a got a phone call from someone I know that is very, very well-connected in the Pac12 and he was asking me what the heck was going on with the Big Ten. He said they (the Big Ten) needed to hurry up and make a decision because none of the other conferences that had planned to sit this fall season out could do anything until the Big Ten was back on board with playing. My source told me that as soon as the Big Ten released their plan it would give the Pac12 all they needed to really get the ball rolling with getting back by the end of October and once that happened the Mountain West would definitely be back in action. In fact, he told me the Mountain West had been planning/hoping for the Big Ten to be back for several weeks now and that they already had the green light to go, but needed the big dominoes (Big Ten, Pac12) to fall ahead of them first.

It's just crazy to me how much the optics of the situation are in play for everyone here and also just how much power the Big Ten has. It also shows me that the Big Ten really did think that everyone would just follow their lead when they originally decided to shut down for the fall. Of course, they did get a couple to follow, but not as many as they thought they would.

Regardless, it seems as if we will be seeing the Pac12 and the MWC back and playing this fall along with the B12, SEC, and ACC too.

Big Ten team recruit Class of 2021 rankings comparison

The NCAA pushed back visits for recruits until January 1, 2021, but that hasn't stopped Big Ten football programs from filling out their respective Classes of 2021 with as many commits as possible.

Nebraska had 11 total verbal commitments at this same point in time last year, but with 18 current commits today they still have a handful of slots left to fill for this cycle.

This Huskers' group of commits presently sits at 4th in the Big Ten conference in total class points, and 7th in commit star average. This is just a snapshot in time and things will remain fluid through the multiple signing dates, whenever they will be.

East Division Ohio State and Michigan are the only two Big Ten programs currently in the Rivals top 6 of the country, followed next by West Division teams Wisconsin and Nebraska at Nos. 17 and 18 respectively.

Next up in the national team rankings comes a clump of four grouped tightly together from 23-27: Cockeye, Rutgers, Maryland and Minnesota. Penn State is next in line at No. 38 and with only 13 verbal pledges so far.

Michigan State [48], Northwestern [50], Indiana [56] and Illinois [61] are able to stay ahead of the current cellar dwellers in the conference of Purdue at No. 83.

Nebraska is usually higher up on the average star ranking per commit list, but the Huskers only have three four-star commitments in this class after averaging 10 four-star signees in Scott Frost's first three recruiting classes.

***While four-star point guard Carter Whitt still hasn’t made a decision on his future school yet, Nebraska remains the team to beat for the former Brewster (N.H.) Academy and Raleigh, N.C., standout.

From what I’ve heard, it should only be a matter of time before Whitt announces his commitment, and all signs are pointing to the Huskers right now. There was some talk initially that his decision could come as early as this past Thursday, so I’d expect something to happen there soon.

So, assuming Whitt does pick NU as a 2020 recruit, that makes Nebraska’s 2021 recruiting picture a little clearer.

Obviously, we need to see how the scholarship situation shakes out before knowing how many spots NU will need to fill, but I would count on them signing one or even two more ’21 high school recruits.

***Also, assuming Whitt is now moving to 2020, the new clear No. 1 on the Huskers’ board is Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei forward Wilhelm Breidenbach.

It sounds like it will come down to Nebraska and Marquette for the Rivals150 big man, and I’m feeling good about NU’s chances, especially should Whitt be on board.

In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Breidenbach make a decision sooner than later.

***After Breidenbach, there’s a relatively new 2021 name to keep a close eye on.

Four-star wing John Camden, a native of Philadelphia and another Brewster Academy product, has apparently developed a strong relationship with the Husker staff, notably lead recruiter Matt Abdelmassih.

Camden, who is rated the No. 94 player in the country, holds offers from Indiana, Syracuse, Wake Forest, TCU, Xavier, Miami, Texas A&M, Florida, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Temple.

There’s been talk that Camden might let things play out a while longer and sign in the spring, which could actually work to Nebraska’s benefit by allowing its own scholarship situation to sort out.

***From what I’ve heard, Camden would be higher on Nebraska’s 2021 priority list than Houston forward Ashton Smith, who has NU in his final four schools but also just picked up a new offer from Texas A&M.

***Beyond those three high school targets, the next options for Nebraska in the 2021 class would almost certainly come from the transfer market.

***On this week’s schedule news, it should be noted that the NCAA’s announcements don’t necessarily outline exactly what the Big Ten Conference is going to do with its 2020-21 scheduling.

In reality, Wednesday’s voting only provided a framework for what conferences could do with their respective schedules. Each league and school will have the ability to operate within those guidelines as they see fit, so long as they meet the established requirements (maximum games, minimum games, start date, etc.).

That means the Big Ten, for instance, could have a much different plan than starting on Nov. 25 and playing the maximum 27 games. Depending on what the Big Ten decides to do with any travel restrictions, it could impact how many and what type of non-conference games its teams are allowed to play.

In other words, there is still plenty of figure out in regard to how Nebraska’s 2020-21 schedule is actually going to shake out.

Players who test positive have to sit out 3 weeks.
if 10 players (roughly) or more test positive, they shut down the program?
Did I read that correctly? Based off other teams contraction rates, it’s literally a forgone conclusion we don’t finish the season.
Warren gave us a season, with unrealistic expectations that cannot possibly be met.
So once it shuts down, he’ll still gets to say “I told you so”.

If a school wants to stay healthy and play, I believe that they can make that happen. My concern is around the schools that may not really want to play or find themselves at 0-4 after 4 weeks of games. Will they be as diligent then as they are now. And if a team is shut down and can't play for 3 weeks, how will that affect teams they were scheduled to play. Becomes a domino effect that impacts every team which can easily derail the season for the league. Fingers crossed that we con't see that.

Good thing most the players have had it already!! The start date on the 24th does tick me off bc of this tho. No wiggle room now

I believe that the b1g sh*t shows continues. This was most likely what it took to get Schitsell and co. to go along, yes, I'm aware it isn't spelled that way.. Twenty one days is ridiculous, along with the 10 player shutdown. After all, what team can play with only 90 players. the b1g is a joke.

Why 3 weeks? I've never even heard of 21 day quarantine. Oddly, it does actually feel like it's being set up for failure.

What’s the BIG going to do now? It was easy for Warren to tell Nebraska if they played elsewhere, they were out of the Conference! Tweeted by ESPN 5 mins ago.

Said it yesterday that this wasn't over. The next 72 hours are going to be very interesting. The decision to cancel the B1G season was clearly not a unanimous decision. If schools want to still play, and there are teams out there looking for games, I'm not sure how the conference can forbid them from doing that.

I agree. I think the BIG canceling, would give teams that wanted to play a loophole for this year. How absurd if we can’t play, and Pitt can. The same for Cockeye and Cockeye St. It is definitely going to take OSU, PSU, and maybe Michigan, to really push this. If this was just Nebraska they could poo poo it.

Very glad that B1G football is returning this Fall. Much better than trying a Spring season, imo. Whether its 8 games or 9, that's not too much of a concern. I think 8 is reasonable given the clown show the conference has displayed to date. No bye weeks though screams of hypocrisy. They either care or don't care about player safety, and it sure seems they don't. Just going to try and focus on the positive that football is back. Let's hope all stay healthy and the Lions have a great season.

I see the moron Warren took down all his diplomas and articles about him and replaced them with bicycles and clocks. I assume that clock is a reminder to him that even a broken one is right twice a day.

There was NO REASON that this couldn't have been agreed to 2 weeks ago... and they could have had a 9 game season, with a bye week, and be done on December 12th... THAT would give them some time to nurse some wounds, and get well. But as it is, it will be a 9 game season, no bye week, and be done on December 19th... RIGHT before the Bowls...

1982 Nebraska
One of the two greatest games ever watched in person at Beaver Stadium. 2005 OSU Whiteout game may beat that, but, the Nebraska game was nuts

I wasn't at either game, but consistently hear from those that were that these 2 games were the loudest ever at Beaver Stadium. There have been a lot of great games played at the Beav, and I would think that the 2016 win against OSU had to be right up there along with some key wins against Michigan, Pitt (48-14 come from behind win) and the 63-15 beatdown of OSU!

Agree! I was a freshman that year and the Beav was jacked! You could feel the vibe all day even before kickoff. Just reminder being essentially lifted off my feet by a wave of students pushing toward the field as time expired. Great memory!

1982 vs Nebraska was notable in that it was very loud compared to the average Beaver Stadium crowd in the 70' and early 80's when we were routinely rolling over all Eastern opponents. I can't imagine that with only about 80,000 in the stands that it was louder than the 2016 game against OSU with 110,000 (and 3,000 quiet Buckeye fans).

It was but very satisfying. Both teams were loaded that year.

In addition to the noise in '82 I'm note sure that anyone in our section ever sat down the entire game -- it was literally crazy!

I was at the game also - set new attendance record that day with 85,000. Best crowd and atmosphere that day until the WhiteOut games and 110,000 people.
Watching it now on YouTube - forgot some many things from that game. We were up 14-0 in the first half and we missed 3 FG’s and had a TD called back due to penalty. Totally dominated the first half but allowed them to score a TD with 35 seconds left to half.

I think we find out there was no official vote per say and the B1G bylaws were not followed accordingly causing even further embarrassment for the B1G.

Legally, though, if the Big 10 institutions all regard it as a binding decision - and they’re certainly acting that way - the fact that the bylaws weren’t strictly followed doesn’t mean anything.

Football is all Nebraska has, literally. Husker fans are desperate for a return to their glory days. I understand their anxiety and I don't blame Nebraska's focused effort to try and get football this fall. The state doen't have the entertainment options of watching the Tigers, Wings, Pistons, and Lions. Oops.

Not only should we have invited Missouri rather than Nebraska, moving to current times we should have chosen anyone other than Kevin Warren as B1G commissioner. If I’ve ever seen a dead man walking, it’s Warren. When it’s all over the presidents will be looking for a fall guy. And they’ll all be looking in the same direction.
Kevin, if you really smart, after flying down south to see your son play, spend a little time updating your resumé and calling some NFL owners who might need a helping hand in the office.

He’s going to end up falling on the sword to allow the presidents to stay clean. He certainly should have done a better job corralling the presidents, but this sh*t show falls on the presidents.

I support Nebraska here, I think cancelling football is complete crap. I know the Big 12 has said they are continuing forward with a season (so far). I think schools that want to play should have that choice.

Nebraska can go and stay gone. Oh and feel free to give us all that BTN money before you leave. Would be nice if it is more than just thisnyear theyd leave.

I am with Nebraska on this one as well. This whole thing has now morphed into the battle of doctors as there is no consensus. The ACC is guided by the Duke medical expert and he believes it is safe to play. Sounds like Nebraska's experts feel the same way. Further, Nebraska's players, coaches, AD, President, Board of Regents and Governor are all on the same page wanting to play. Doesn't seem fair for them to have to sit back and lose $120 million for decisions made by others. Nebraska never complained about the below market payout they were receiving from the Big Ten during the 6 year buy in phase unlike Maryland and Rutgers. An easy solution would be to give Nebraska or any other Big Ten school a temporary release from the grant of rights for 6 months. Why should the remaining schools like Wisconsin that don't want to play care if Nebraska plays?

The Big Ten generally cares about 1 thing and that is money. Those wishing Nebraska were to move on would be happy if each member makes less money from conference affiliation? Nebraska adds to the appeal of the league with sold out stadiums and 90k in attendance. The rest of the league save Michigan, OSU and PSU have dwindling fan support.
College football would have been far better off if they used one group of medical experts to advise the Power 5 conferences at minimum. I would think it would take some of the politics away from the decision making process.

Anyone else see the title of this article and think, well I hope so? Nebraska’s only achievement in both football and basketball since joining the B1G is that their fans show up to the games no matter what. Which is respectable but I start to think that Nebraska’s biggest issue is their coaches and fans keep telling everyone how great they are over and over when they haven’t achieved anything yet. In Madison we love our teams but you have to earn our respect. The tailgate parties before the games are far too fun for the students to ever show up for a 4-8 team in Madison.

I would prefer Nebraska going 5-7 in the B1G but if they want to go 5-7 in the Big 12 that's fine too.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Aren’t they basically shutting down campus right now? And we’re gonna play football? This just buys them another 5 weeks to come up with more excuses not to play.

So why was the season canceled to begin with again?

If they are going to hold players out for 21 days after a positive test (which is utterly ridiculous), I would encourage all my players to get exposed before testing starts...

I'm curious to know what changed in the minds of the B1G Presidents. Was it something substantive, like advancements in testing? Or was it simply caving to outside pressure to play?
Or maybe there was no plan in place a month ago? You'd think the football braintrust would've been developing contingency plans ever since the NCAA Basketball tournament was cancelled. It's not like they didn't have time to make a plan. I think that's what's so frustrating.

21 days is insane especially when there are false positives and the incubation period has been proven to be much shorter.

Think it’s fair to give credit to the players, parents, coaches, and ADs for creating pressure to speed up the process, no?

Listening to Kevin Warren is very painful. The guy just isn't authentic and lacks substance. It's buzz word after buzzword or cliche after cliche coming from his mouth.
He might be a nice enough guy but he's just not cut out for the job. He's worse than Gary Anderson with the phony commentary.

If our schedule is anything near what it was 8-0 is very much in the picture. Regardless of going 8-0 or 7-1, I think to make the playoff we have to beat Ohio state. That’s the case every year so this is no different. I have high confidence in the maturity and mindset of this team and believe they’ll at least give another good run at it.

There are athletes all over the place playing competitively now, the NFL among them. If there were issues with heart complications, we would have heard about it by now.
Further, studies have shown myocarditus in high endurance athletes after the flu so this isn't anything new.
And what's really laughable about this is that the athletes are still training/practicing so it's not like postponing actual games one day a week is going to reduce the risk any. Think about it - these athletes are only susceptible to myocarditus one day a week for 3 hours?

I am happy Nebraska is in the Big Ten!

I'm just happy to watch Hawkeye football this fall. I knew I'd miss it; I just didn't realize how much. Will miss the family tailgate, but will happily do the workarounds, virtually, and for safety.

I live in Omaha and a few have told me, “Nebraska should get credit!” I laughed it off.

They didn't have any bigger role than Cockeye,these three all voted to play football this year.

I’ll give them some props, not Frost, but their attorney general’s office stuck their neck out and brought actions to force answers and also challenge the BIG’s status as a non profit group operating in their state. While frivolous, i think it pushed some of the right buttons to get the BiG to move.

Absolutely. Nebraska fought hard to get football back and even though I despise them I am more than happy to give them a little credit.

Who cares where the credit goes for this? We get to watch B1G football this fall. YESSSSSS!!!!!!

NCAA Is this the beginning of the end of Nebraska in the Big Ten?

I support Nebraska here, I think cancelling football is complete crap. I know the Big 12 has said they are continuing forward with a season (so far). I think schools that want to play should have that choice.

Nebraska can go and stay gone. Oh and feel free to give us all that BTN money before you leave. Would be nice if it is more than just thisnyear theyd leave.

I am with Nebraska on this one as well. This whole thing has now morphed into the battle of doctors as there is no consensus. The ACC is guided by the Duke medical expert and he believes it is safe to play. Sounds like Nebraska's experts feel the same way. Further, Nebraska's players, coaches, AD, President, Board of Regents and Governor are all on the same page wanting to play. Doesn't seem fair for them to have to sit back and lose $120 million for decisions made by others. Nebraska never complained about the below market payout they were receiving from the Big Ten during the 6 year buy in phase unlike Maryland and Rutgers. An easy solution would be to give Nebraska or any other Big Ten school a temporary release from the grant of rights for 6 months. Why should the remaining schools like Wisconsin that don't want to play care if Nebraska plays?

The Big Ten generally cares about 1 thing and that is money. Those wishing Nebraska were to move on would be happy if each member makes less money from conference affiliation? Nebraska adds to the appeal of the league with sold out stadiums and 90k in attendance. The rest of the league save Michigan, OSU and PSU have dwindling fan support.
College football would have been far better off if they used one group of medical experts to advise the Power 5 conferences at minimum. I would think it would take some of the politics away from the decision making process.

Anyone else see the title of this article and think, well I hope so? Nebraska’s only achievement in both football and basketball since joining the B1G is that their fans show up to the games no matter what. Which is respectable but I start to think that Nebraska’s biggest issue is their coaches and fans keep telling everyone how great they are over and over when they haven’t achieved anything yet. In Madison we love our teams but you have to earn our respect. The tailgate parties before the games are far too fun for the students to ever show up for a 4-8 team in Madison.

I would prefer Nebraska going 5-7 in the B1G but if they want to go 5-7 in the Big 12 that's fine too.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Aren’t they basically shutting down campus right now? And we’re gonna play football? This just buys them another 5 weeks to come up with more excuses not to play.

So why was the season canceled to begin with again?

If they are going to hold players out for 21 days after a positive test (which is utterly ridiculous), I would encourage all my players to get exposed before testing starts...

I'm curious to know what changed in the minds of the B1G Presidents. Was it something substantive, like advancements in testing? Or was it simply caving to outside pressure to play?
Or maybe there was no plan in place a month ago? You'd think the football braintrust would've been developing contingency plans ever since the NCAA Basketball tournament was cancelled. It's not like they didn't have time to make a plan. I think that's what's so frustrating.

21 days is insane especially when there are false positives and the incubation period has been proven to be much shorter.

Listening to Kevin Warren is very painful. The guy just isn't authentic and lacks substance. It's buzz word after buzzword or cliche after cliche coming from his mouth.
He might be a nice enough guy but he's just not cut out for the job. He's worse than Gary Anderson with the phony commentary.

If our schedule is anything near what it was 8-0 is very much in the picture. Regardless of going 8-0 or 7-1, I think to make the playoff we have to beat Ohio state. That’s the case every year so this is no different. I have high confidence in the maturity and mindset of this team and believe they’ll at least give another good run at it.

There are athletes all over the place playing competitively now, the NFL among them. If there were issues with heart complications, we would have heard about it by now.
Further, studies have shown myocarditus in high endurance athletes after the flu so this isn't anything new.
And what's really laughable about this is that the athletes are still training/practicing so it's not like postponing actual games one day a week is going to reduce the risk any. Think about it - these athletes are only susceptible to myocarditus one day a week for 3 hours?
