Didn't help to be down 3 of our better defensive players.

I'm not nearly as down on the progress/rebuild as most. I was hoping we wouldn't have to go through quite as rough a first year, and today kinda sucked, but the angst is reaching somewhat comical levels given that was one of the top teams in the country & we're 1/3 of a season into a rebuild with a roster everyone knows is shredded, that's been cut up even more by injuries.
What was the deal with Singleton? I missed that.

Steph infection was what was disclosed, but I think he also has some kind of injury.

I'm not sure how many wins I see left on this schedule. We're staring at another 4-8 season. Illinois and maybe NW are the only games I feel good about. Maryland may rout us.

We match up okay with Cockeye, just because they might have an offense as inept as ours. 4-8 should be the ceiling IMO. I hate everything.

Singleton had a knee injury a couple plays in. Reimer had the staph infection.

They will

And we are the worst team in the big ten. That's just the facts as they stand right now in part due to injuries but also because we have the least talented roster as well. But its deeper than just physical talent. We can all pretend that we didn't see a Nebraska team that had already given up on the game sometime last week. And we can all pretend that it doesn't matter. But it does matter. Quitting is as we've seen for the last several years an easy path for the majority of our roster. I can't really even feel any measure of anger or disgust which I should. But it also lets me see things clearly. Could this team win the west? If they were to give it their all each and every game I'd give it 10%. Yes the talent disparity is large between NU an MU. But we've all seen far less talented teams challenge and on rare occasions beat very talented teams. It takes lightning in a bottle for upsets sure, but what it takes first is a team that believes in themselves. Michigan didn't break a sweat. Our boys were already thinking about where to party tonight when they were getting dressed in the locker room for the game. We have a loser mentality that's pretty endemic on this team. It's like a parasite of the mind for these guys. I firmly believe that every team we play the rest of the season is going to want to win more than our team will. In a sloppy pillow fight that will count the most.
Probably right
Rhule twice this year has round about referenced the team quitting
He did after Colorado & again today
What really blows is the team never did this under the last guy
Even though it’s common knowledge the last guy ran a clown show

I feel the same but here the catch, where TF is the youth movement in the OL, QB, RB, WR? We seriously need to hit the portal hard next year and give any and every OL recruit and WR recruit that's legit whatever amount they want. We are terrible on the OL even the back ups are terrible.
I would really like to hear why Coleman is barely seeing the field. Are we planning to redshirt him or is he not developing

No. But they played them worse than anyone else they’ve played. And their schedule has been horse shit

I had a feeling that these types of transitive property analyses wouldn’t be relevant for this game. U-M walks in to the first game they cared about this year.
I get what you're saying, but it seems weak to write off four games as ones Michigan just didn't care about. That's just SEC bowl season logic.
Even if you write off the three non-conference games, you still have Rutgers. Not sure why they would care less about Rutgers than about DONU.

It was a better effort offensively than Cockeye had at Penn St last week
I was expecting us to look like Cockeye last week
If we look just as inept at Illinios next week, then it’s worth getting upset about
The result today was expected & honestly I don’t think they gave it their best shot bc of the short week in a game which is more important
Beat Illinois & the West can be won
The chance of us winning the west is near zero. Beat Illinois and it gives a pulse as far as a bowl game goes.

Probably fair, but also probable that Rutgers has better athletes across the board than we have at this point. At least that’s what cover 3 said in their instant reaction podcast about us and them.

Very very very confused. Rhule has never done well in his first year. It’s amazing to watch the bitching. We do absolutely have the dumbest self-delusional fans in college football. I feel sorry for everyone that had to deal with our fans on a daily basis.
Tone, can’t agree more. I think we have the dumbest most unrealistic fans in the country. Including many on here.

Gotta let Rhule cook and he shouldn't be anywhere near a hot seat, but he would be wise to look to upgrade some assistants on the offensive side of the ball this off-season, given what we've seen so far.

So who would you get rid of on the offensive side? I’m assuming Satterfield, the receivers coach, and Donny are tops.

Reality is that we aren’t firing anyone, especially someone we’d owe $1m to, after year 1. The other reality is that this isn’t how Rhule rolls. His staff is one he expects to grow over time with his players as part of the culture building. The only way we lose someone is because they leave on their own (like they get a better job offer or feel that it’s a sinking ship here). I don’t see that happening with anyone on that side of the ball right now.

An excuse I want to tuck in here is that this staff was hodgepodge. This wasn’t just a lift and shift from Rhules previous job. So they are also trying to figure each other out in addition to the roster and the environment. Why the defense is doing better is because White brought along some special assistants that know the defense very well and they are helping the young staff figure things out. Like, we want to give credit to how the LBs and DL was playing to Dvor and Pork but I bet Kevin McGarry has had his hands all over the success of those positions. We don’t have that kind of person for offense.

So I’d like to see us do three things on offense:
1) I would like us to find an assistant with experience in calling option football. Right now, we just don’t have the line or the skill players to run what we actually want to and we’re left with the staff googling it (I feel like I read somewhere that they’ve never done this before and were asking old NU assistants how to do it). Someone like Ivin Jasper who got play calling duties taken away from him at USNA be brought over as a special assistant (I bet he makes more doing that here than what he does at Navy), or Niumatalolo who’s now some bs position at UCLA. The order was Paul Johnson called plays, then Niumat, and then Jasper. And now it’s someone else, idk. Get one of them as a coach for the coaches when it comes to how to get a feel for calling the option game.

2) Find a Kevin McGarry for the offense. Either someone specific to help with the OL or someone that can help spread the concepts twice as fast so Satt doesn’t have to do all of it with every coach. Some examples of former coaches with Rhule; Bob Bicknell (non-coach with the Saints), Shawn Bell (QBs with Baylor), Glenn Thomas (non-coach with the Steelers), and Sean Ryan (unemployed). I don’t feel great about any of those honestly but think it’s important to find someone who wants Satt to succeed in that role and not just someone looking to eventually take over.

3) Get creative with our coaching numbers. Maybe we bring in someone to be co-OC/OT/TE coach, move Martin back to a special assistant with equal pay… or move Foley off as a coach. Or have Satt be the co-OC/OT/TE (he’s been OL coach before) and give all the money ($1.5m is probably what it takes) to Jake Peetz to be co-OC/QB.

Our IOL play is fine. It’s our OT play that is garbage but I’m at the point that I don’t think thumbs are why Corc can’t even put an outreached hand on a defender as they run by. Dealt the hand kind of thing.
