I think Leach's situation is entirely different, other than them both being cardiac events. IIRC Leach was home and therefore wouldn't have had the availability of an AED and being minutes away from a hospital. I thought it was close to 25 minutes for Leach.

As you said, "just in general." The vast majority of cases don't happen where you have emergency medical staff on-site to immediately administer life-saving measures. Hopefully that will be the difference in this outcome.

Ugh. When I played baseball this happened to a little kid whose team was playing at the same time on a different field. He got hit in the chest by a ball, they stopped all the games while medics tried to save him, then he got airlifted by a helicopter right off the field but sadly he didn't make it. Absolutely soul crushing stuff.
I am curious to see what the cause of this was and if he was taking any kind of supplements with Taurine in it. I've had issues with V tach/V Fib and I have to be careful with what I drink, especially if it has Taurine and caffeine together. From what I've researched, taurine enhances you senses and make your body more sensitive to caffeine and other stimulants. Another thing that I have to be careful is any diet drinks that has aspartame in it. Definitely a scary situation that he went through and hope the doctors can find out caused it and prevent it from happening again.

You might want to further your research Taurine, it's one of the safest supplements on the market. Taurine is extremely beneficial with no known side effects, when taken without caffeine, up to 3g per day. It plays large roles in healthy cardiac function, healthy liver function, and muscular function and development.
I'm pretty sure at one time I stumbled across the article in which you've seen that taurine combined with caffeine was bad. If you ever read a supplement article, be sure to see what products that site offers. The supplement industry is notorious for misrepresenting research to benefit their product over competitors. Also, that study had given subjects something obscene amount of caffeine like 320-340mg or so.
Here's are a few good published research articles on it.
Role of Taurine when combined with Caffeine --- cliff, it was shown that "if there are any interactions between caffeine and taurine, taurine might reduce the cardiovascular effects of caffeine." Further research is needed to prove this.
The major impetus behind the rise in energy drink popularity among adults is their ability to heighten mental alertness, improve physical performance and supply energy. However, accompanying the exponential growth in energy drink usage have been recent case reports and analyses from the National...
Taurine (2-aminoethanesulphonic acid), a sulphur-containing amino acid, is found in most mammalian tissues. Although it can be synthesized endogenously, the major source of taurine is from the diet. Taurine was found to exhibit diverse biological ...

I get it, but I'm telling you from my experiences of going through V tach and being hospitalized in a similar situation of blacking out due to my heart racing to over 220 bpms and almost dying. Since then, I look at the ingredients of what I drink and was drinking at the time, one of the major ingredients was Taurine with caffeine that was in Sobe Adreneline Rush. Additionally, I talked to my cardiologist about this last week and he was telling me about how they did a review on how some Marines a few years ago that went into cardiac arrest at the gym and they were all taking this pre workout supplement that was loaded with taurine and other ingredients. I'm sure taurine by itself is safe, however, it does something to the body when mixed with caffeine and it's not good for the heart's electrical system.
