Coaching Board

While our defense is playing great, how much is it to do with Chin’s scheme and system as an amazing defensive guru and more with having super seniors?

I’m not bashing him at all, just saying can we expect a top defense year in and year out? I don’t believe so. I could be wrong tho.

I will say that’s why I’m so pissed though about this season, tons of experience on defense, 4th-year starting QB…and we will probably still only win 4-5 games.
Was thinking the same thing this morning.

Next year is going to be fucking brutal if you're sick of hearing about "youth".

how about we keep our coach & hire a washed up proven coach as special teams & associate head coach
If you go this route there are two things I want to accomplish...

1. Special teams Coordinator.
  1. Snyder is going to be looking
  2. Dan Jackson
  3. Discher
  4. I would hire Bo at this point haha
2. Get a Co-OL coach. Is Austin the problem or the potential solution? I frankly don't know. I do know coaching 20+ scholarship guys is a tough task for 1 guy. Especially at a spot where you can have a huge impact on everybody else.

This is more of a wish than what I think will actually happen.

I actually am in the camp of thinking they will continue to be a very good defense.

That side of the ball at all 3 levels have proven to be very good at teaching/developing and getting the right guys.

I mean Nelson has gone from an effort guy to actually playing really good football. Reimer and Nick are a very very good pair of ILBs. Shit how many people wrote off Tannor? Look at the secondary. Newsome is locking down his side. Fuck Clark blanketed a stud from OU and should have had a pick. Then they have a 5* dude behind them there. Then you look at the DL and it is a bunch of fellas up there. They destroyed Sparty's OL.

Would be nice too find out next year

Austin was praised overall prior to this year. I think a Co-OL coach would make a lot of sense.

There are only like 12 scholarship OL on the team compared to say the DBs with around 15. I'm sure OL could be/is harder to teach than DB play though.

this is my dream scenario but i think Marrone would not like Frost
oooohhhh that Doug Marrone....knew I reognized the name, couldn't place the face. NFL guy to Bama....most likely no nonsense type....if even a hint of those Frost and the frat boy rumors are true, that combo will not work.

Huh I could have swore they had more.. You are right. Show me for not actually counting and just going off first blush.

I am a fan of having your OL having an OL and OL/TE. I just think I would rather have 2 guys there vs 1 guy coaching 5 starters and 1 guy coaching 1 starter.

To me, if we make a change my top priority would be to find someone with experience coaching at the P5 level. Given that, that narrows your list to: Clawson, Campbell, Patterson, Doeren, O’Brien, Klieman, and Gundy. I’ll also add Malzahn, Chris Petersen, and Stoops to the mix.

Given this, here how I’d rank them personally:
1a) Petersen
1b) Stoops
How realistic either of these options are would remain to be seen, but if there’s even a modicum of a chance we have to shoot our shots.

From there I’d go:
2) Malzahn
3) O’Brien
4) Campbell
5) Patterson
6) Clawson
7) Doeren
8) Klieman
9) Gundy - I do think he’s a good coach, just don’t realistically see him ever leaving Okie St

The one coach I’d probably be willing to break my “previous P5 experience rule” for is #2ndChoice.

Anyone that doesn't have Hugh Freeze at #1 is crazy. First of all, he is an incredible coach that just wins. Yes, he had some shady off the field antics. But he is at Liberty and if they aren't too good for him, why should we be?

1. Hugh Freeze (HC @ Liberty)
2. Luke #2ndChoice (HC @ Cincinnati)
----------------------------
3. Lance Leiopold (HC @ Kansas)
4. Marcus Freeman (DC @ Notre Dame)
5. Jim Leonard (DC @ Wisconsin)
6. Billy Napier (HC @ Louisiana)
----------------------------
7. Gus Malzahn (HC @ UCF)
8. Mike Elko (DC @ aTm)
9. Chris Klieman (HC @ K-State)
10. Bill O'Brien (OC @ Alabama)

Im in for Freeze but uh you might want to look into the morals of one Liberty University

That's a good point coupling OL/TE. Do you think Beckton could fill that role?

And that is the problem... He is your best coach on offense. His other experience is at WR iirc. So that is where if you want to make that move it becomes multiple moves.
