Neither of the other two portal RBs Cal signed has ever rushed for more than 435 yards in a season. He'll go into fall camp knowing the offense as well as the other guys (not at all) and be the tentative starter.

I think that's more a reflection of the "island" Cal finds themselves on currently. Cal Football playing in the ACC is not sustainable, and I would bet that was really difficult on the players. Let's look at their travel from last season:

- Sept 7th at Auburn
- Sept 21st at Florida State
- October 12th at Pitt
- November 8th at Wake
- November 30th at SMU

The Los Angeles Rams played an NFL schedule with 17 regular season games and 2 playoff games. Cal played as many East Coast games as the Rams did.

And College Football teams don't travel like the NFL.
