You should really listen for context. After the story about DB falling on his ass in the rain:
- crazy loud noise heard upstairs at beginning of visit turns out to be Rhule missing best special teams meeting ever led by Eckler
- Eckler goes full Eckler upon meeting Marty; DB’s not sure goes over well
- later in the day, Marty says, “I like that dude “
- Marty has lunch with Emmitt who is not at all phased about the competition
- DB likes the way NU recruits. No chasing ANY player. The player needs to meet them half way.
….not going to drop a bag like Miami
….not wooing with in-homes like Cal
….not ‘urgent’ like KSU
….NU acts like their already a 10+ win program
-Rhule told Marty, we want you to watch our padded practice and eat where you’re going to eat. To experience what it will truly be like. (NU is not going to ‘sell’ something that’s not authentic)
-“ if you want us t take you dinner at a 5-star restaurant, we will” but that’s not what is most important to us.
-later have dinner with Coach Rhule, Barthel, Dana…and the pocket aces, Julie Rhule
-DB told his pops don’t pay attention to BS on message boards. Reading those posts doesn’t truly represent the interest that NU has in your son
It’s been a while since I listened to the whole segment. Like I said, better to carve out the time to listen yourself for context.
Overall, DB comes off as impressed that Rhule and staff is so comfortable in their own skin and confident in the culture, that the culture is the very thing they’re ‘marketing’ in recruiting while being genuine and without selling bullshit
