Casey has more experience than Sims but IMO he's not the answer, either, and has been injured almost all his career, and now at FAU he's out for the season.

He wanted to stay but wanted to be promised the starting job. Since he missed sprint Rhule couldn’t promise him that. So he left. That’s what happened and it is what it is.
That's pretty much how I see it. I think Rhule was honest with him and said Sims was ahead as Thompson had not practiced yet, Thompson wanted more assurance that he'd play as he didn't want to sit his last year, Rhule couldn't guarantee that so Thompson left. Didn't appear that either had hard feelings over it, just the way it was. But I have no inside source and am basing that mostly on common sense.

Almost zero chance it didn't happen exactly like that.

I like to make people read it 3 times to figure out what it's saying.

From the eyeball test, we could win with Casey, we could win with Hs, and we ain't winnin a thing with Sims

Sims is one of the worst QBs I've ever seen or will see in my entire life, but the offense is so deficient on skill position talent and hell offensive line ability that Casey isn't making a difference.
Simply taking care of the ball could have won the Minnesota game.

It could have, but games are totally different if you have Thompson at QB and I just don't think we're all that much better off with him. Obviously this isn't an opinion that really has good evidence behind it.

CU is a totally different game too if Fumbly Jeff isn't dropping the ball inside CUs 35 or whatever/giving CU the ball on our 30

Thompson isn't turning the ball over 8 times in 2 games. That alone changes things

Just taking care of the ball will keep you in about every game outside Michigan this year because most of the other BIG offenses suck. Our defense is probably as good or better than most of the BIG defenses too. Hopefully if anything HH takes care of the ball.

I do wonder if they'll start using either Fumbly Jeff or Haarberg as a "wildcat QB" to spread some carries around. Not that I'm thrilled about Fumbly Jeff's touches

There's no certainty that Casey would have had better ball security. While he might not be prone to fumbling snaps, it's impossible to guarantee that he wouldn't have thrown interceptions instead.

Considering the less-than-stellar performance of NU's wide receivers, who probably rank towards the bottom of the P5, along with an offensive line dealing with its own challenges, and the fact that Casey isn't known for his scrambling ability, it doesn't paint a picture of high potential success from my perspective.

Also, it's worth noting that he was injured a lot last year and is already ruled out for the rest of this year while playing against lower-tier competition. Starting against two P5 teams on the road after recovering from an injury with limited practice doesn't exactly set up an ideal situation either.
