So true. Frost is almost the polar opposite of T.O.. Not sure how or why T.O. supported Frost through all of this BS. What a clusterfuck of a mess Frost was as a coach, a person, and what he did to this program. Just was an entitled ass almost the entire time.

Seems we have almost the opposite of Frost with Rhule now. A true professional who is more than a sound byte, seems to be a real good guy with a real strong vision and ability to lead young men. Feels good, man.
And weirdly Rhule seems to like Nebraska which was never a vibe that Scott gave

I read more than one post (when he quit) that referred to his close circle of friends. Apparently, none of them were athletes or involved in sports in any way, shape or form. Maybe he’s rethought who he should be hanging out with when away from football.
That could very well be, I have no idea, but just because someone's friends aren't involved in sports doesn't mean they're bad influences.

Maybe he grew up with non-sports friends and has a quieter personality that needs some extra outreach to fit in among the rowdy football dude types, so when he had a head coach who was noncommunicative and a position coach who tried the hardass approach on him, he just said "what am I even doing if nobody wants me here?"

Other than a small weed-related ticket, I don't think there was ever any sign that Betts was on a dark path or anything like that, right? I think he just needs the right kind of coach/leader to guide him a little bit, and Rhule seems like the exact right kind of person to do that.

"I love this place more than anybody, nobody wants this to work more than I do... alright losers I gotta go grab my spit-filled mountain dew bottle and a 12 pack, I'm goin huntin so I can get as far away from this nightmare as possible"
-Scott Frost (probably)

I don’t think he was ever on a dark path. Aside from the weed deal his problems when he was in high school & heading into college were laziness and lack of work ethic & drive. Now think about that…he was THAT talented without putting in much effort. With a seemingly renewed love for the game and added maturity this kid might just be more than we’d ever imagined. We’re just gonna have to sit back and hope he earns it.

Just gonna play Devil's Advocate here for a minute but even if those "friends" weren't bad kids they still could have been in the "who needs to get yelled at by WR coach Mickey Joseph every effin' day" camp and been a daily nudge that eventually pushed him out the door.

Who knows. Just spitballing..........

I'm stoked for him! Re-joining the team in the first place is an incredible turn of events, if he can even become a solid contributor it will be an awesome success story.

Haha for sure, me and my friends may have said some stuff like that from time to time to our best football playing friend in high school 😬 Luckily for him, he ignored us and went on to play in college, but I still maintain that he missed out on some good concerts...

If Frost would have actually gotten to know his players, Zavier might not have felt like no one there cared about him. I will never understand how Frost was ever coached by Osborne. He didn't take anything from what made him a good coach.
Frost appears to be an introverted narcissist. No humility seemed able to creep in to him despite how poorly things were in Nebraska. He needs to stick with being an OC.

Players don’t need 40 year old friends, they need coaching. Developing relationships with players is as easy as taking an interest in their life away from football. Asking about it, helping when possible. Understanding the players you coach is essential. It’s not a one size fits all approach. It sounds like - I do not know for certain - that Mickey’s style of motivating players didn’t work real well with Betts.

Betts has matured it seems. He seems to realize how fortunate he is to get this second chance and is taking advantage of it. We’ll see, but it seems that way.

My brother was a midget through high school. In a year after graduating, he grew 5 inches and filled out nicely. He looked completely different than he did at graduation the year before. It can happen.
