First thought was Betts is soft. Second thought was Washington probably doesn’t have much room to talk.

Just get control of the situation McGuire
I see it both ways. I’m sure Washington didn’t appreciate Betts going AWOL last season and then getting his praises sung all spring and summer.

Although I’m too lazy to look up if their time last season overlapped at all. If it didn’t, disregard my stupid thought.

Nothing earth shattering…

“Apparently on Tuesday or Wednesday Marcus Washington and Zavier got into it a little bit. Zavier claimed to have a concussion but was cleared and Marcus called him out for not actually being hurt.. and trying to get out of practice ect”

Just solidifies Bett’s mental state since day one. Always been lazy and quick to fold at any sign of adversity.
Betts has issues, that's for sure. I talked to my source and they are pissed at him for making this decision. Apparently he didn't talk to his family at all before making this decision.

That being said, let's also not ignore the grind that it took for Zavier to get eligible. I'm guessing that if Washington got on Zavier's case, he was upset at the pot calling the kettle black. Rhule has been outspoken about Washingtons lack of leadership, and I'm guessing he's trying to step up, but Zavier didn't appreciate being called out by him. Doesn't make Zavier right at all, and he still made a terrible mistake. But I don't think this is an example of folding at the first sign of adversity. Just my opinion.

McGuire supposed to give them spankings or something?

Washington is supposed to be a senior leader, sounds like he was being one

Dude he literally has folded his whole athletic career. Taking the easy road through HS and taking the easy road out multiple times in college. He is very gifted and great at sports, we get that but is mentally a pussy. Doesn’t make him a bad guy or anything. Is what it is, just a mental pussy.
With that said I truly do hope life goes well for him. He’s human.

If you watched a clip of Rhule speaking (I believe in that ew mini series) Rhule specifically says he expects each player to call the others out and hold them accountable. Hard to know if it was before or after the betts deal but either way sounds like Washington did what Rhule asks of them.

I’m going to need you to step away from the keyboard (or phone) and take a deep breath. It’s ok. He is human. People can be mentally unwell and I wouldn’t wish that upon anyway.

Chin up, Buck.

I don't agree with the stuff about him being a "talented pussy".

He just didn't want to play D1 football.

I have met other people who were extremely talented at a sport, thought they loved their sport, and then got to D1 and found out they actually didn't love their sport enough to give up all the other parts of their life to continue participating in it.

You have to be extremely driven to excel at something to do it at D1.

He didn't ask to come back. They asked him.

Didn't Washington hurt his hand in an altercation? With this Betts info, perhaps he loves altercations. Let's hope he brings that energy to run blocking

My heart really isn’t into getting up and going to work, but we all fucking do it.

If this was my kid I would lose my mind. I get that sports and football aren’t for everyone, but walking away from a scholarship, stipends, NIL etc without even talking to me???? Maybe he could still go onto the retirement scholarship, but I wonder if he even stopped to think about how he was even going to pay for this semester?

I didn't realize that Betts didn't ask to come back. That's interesting. Doesn't change that much, but it's interesting.

On the unrealized talent issue....this is a COMMON issue in other sports - it just always seems rare in football (but it's really not). Mainly basketball. If you ask a lot of NBA stars about the best players they've ever seen - many will name a bunch of guys you've never heard of. There were playground legends who could never get it together to play college ball - or even HS ball. Guys like Ron Artest etc.

It's not that rare that a super gifted athlete doesn't actualize their potential. If anything, the inverse is probably more rare.

Betts entered the portal to restart his football career, then Rhule called and asked him to consider coming back to NU.

it honestly doesn't matter. Betts would have quit wherever he ended up, it's who he is

Didn’t realize Betts came back like that. I thought he approached the coaches

It's one thing to enjoy doing something, and another thing to enjoy doing it as a job.

But damn, that's a lot of money he's throwing away...
