August recruiting thread

Not trying to defend Dean or any of his stooges, but I guess I am not sure what people are looking for? I get that he probably shouldn't have said something that may have been "off record", but at the same time, people are always bitching about not getting any good "insider" information or nugs. Maybe he could have worded his post differently (maybe just make some comment like I do not believe that is going to be any issue or factor into his decision-making going forward), but that seems to be the type of information people are always complaining about not getting. It isn't like Mongo has any inside ties to the actual program, so the only information he is really going to be able to give is in recruiting.

It also looks like it was posted in Tunnel Talk, which Dean has gone after people who have taken that info and shouted it out on social media.
Yeah, I get it. Maybe just don't mention it was off the record info at all if you don't people to mention it.

I get wanting to play a full season to see what additional schools offer you.
Unless you're a legit 4 and 5 star kid it's a dangerous game to play with the transfer portal availability to teams.

If you're a legit 4 or 5 star kid then teams are going to hold a spot for you no matter what. Can't say the same for someone that isn't a big time recruit.

I agree. I'm just saying I understand the mentality which, in my mind, is to see what offers you could earn after having played your first full season. Its a totally different formula now that the windows to commit have moved back substantially from December.

Definitely doesn't seem like a smart move on his part, especially with his history of injury.

On the other side of this is if you are a 5 Star kid...why ever sign a Letter of Intent? If you think of it as a financial decision, you could wait it out until the end of the school year if you wanted to and see what happens with head coaches/coordinators/position coaches, see the best NIL deal you could get and then enroll at the end of May.

You don't have to sign an LOI to play college football.

If you're a 3 star or lower you probably want to hold that spot in a recruiting class.

That's an interesting point. When is demand for 5-star players highest or is it always high? It does make the most sense to wait for all off-season craziness to settle before making a move.

A 5-star is likely the target of most/all programs and only considering those at the very top which likely have strong NIL programs. I can see some coaches not wanting to play that game but there will be those programs that don't care and will do whatever they can to add that elite talent to their roster.

I believe she was a UNL soccer player from Canada.
That could be it. Was she on the Canadian national team? For some reason I have it stuck in my head that she was national team/Olympic level athlete.

Mongo with a masterclass of integrity here, using things Brix told him while "off the record"
This is obviously a huge no-no for a journalists to share something the source understood to be off the record. Even a "journalist" on the level of Munsson would know that. This appears to be such a blatant violation of that trust that I am forced to see if there is any other way to interpret the situation. Perhaps what he meant is that Brix went into more detail about the relationship, why it ended (maybe she cheated on him and hooked up with a college guy) and Brix didn't want that out there in public. So perhaps it wasn't that the relationship was over that was off the record, but other details.

Let's see an ugly girl do that. Really has nothing to do with being a pole vaulter other than her expertise at handling sticks.
Come on Jim you know that this girl is one of the top NIL earners in the country because of her skills as a gymnast -
