I think elite RB is far less important than getting QB right.
Define "right." That's so open-ended. If Minchey ends up being the guy, I think that is "getting QB right" for the objective of what this staff is trying to build in 2026. They don't want to tie up too much money in a QB. So getting a talent like Minchey is the equivalent of a home run. He doesn't have the experience to demand huge money, but has top-end potential.

Whether you disagree with this strategy is a separate argument. But I can certainly understand it and am here for it.

What a major disappointment.

I feel positive about it. I’ve been a pretty vocal advocate that we needed to bring in a guy with proven ability. Regardless of if we tried or not, it’s obvious that’s not happening. So, this seems like the best option of that other thought process of bringing in someone less costly to “compete” for the starting spot.

While I do believe competition is imperative to get the best out of people, if this is a true QB competition going into the fall then I would classify him as a miss.

If we’re bringing in guys that are truly competitive comps to LaQueef, we’ve spent money poorly and the team will have a ceiling of 5 or 6 wins next season.

I’m hopeful the “competition” is an illusion and Minchey is coming in to start right away.
I’m in 100% agreement with you at this point. I, too, wanted someone that had started at some level and was somewhat proven but I think/hope KM is a significant upgrade. An open competition is great but we have seen enough of TJ now to feel we are in trouble if it’s truly a battle for who starts next year between those 2.

This won't be a competition. Its Minchey's team barring an injury or Jeff Sims syndrome

I don't think people ITT realize how close he was to starting for ND. The only difference between him and Carr was that Carr has a Day 1 arm and Minchey has a Day 3 arm which you can win with in college. Minchey starting at ND probably gets them exactly where they finished

within 24 hours of it getting announced in august the notre dame beat was almost unanimously reporting he'd get the job.

Who else do you think we’ll bring in for QB?

We really shouldn't get distracted by Cignetti turning things around in 1 year, it's an anomaly. But Cristobal's results here are what you're really looking for when you hire a coach - you'll have signal within 2-3 years whether it's going to work or not.

Notice how they fired Manny Diaz even though he MAdeE BoWL GAmEs!!1 after his 3rd season to roll the dice with Cristobal and now it's paying off.
Looks like it worked out for Manny. ACC champions and 18-9 since taking over Duke.

Love minchey pick up

I’d like to find our Trinidad

Elite d2 qb, not expecting to be the star but could win the job
