2022 Nebraska HC Board

Kinda like the promoting Chins idea. Would he be ready though? I would invest emotionally into that. Might be a tad awkward though
That is the thing I don't know and really the only one who would is Turd and people with that level of access.

I mean he took a fucking awful defense and has made it one of the better ones in the B1G.

I am hesitant to hire another coach who doesn't have any head coaching experience, or head coaching experience in a P5 conference.

We went from the crazy guy on the sideline that we all put up with but were embarrassed by, to the boring ho hum loser on the sideline, to the cocky stoic who can't win close games.

I think Kiffin would bring some much needed energy and swagger to the program. And he won't have to go through a rebuild like Frost did. He can come in, go get a transfer QB, and then start throwing YOLO bombs to Betts and Manning.
I loved Bo's energy. Was never embarrassed by it

If we hired Rhule he could go grab his former QB at Baylor who is now in the transfer portal again.

I would love Kiffin because I think we need to tear down the idea that there's only one way to win at Nebraska. The best thing that ever happened to OU was Stoops bringing in Mike Leach as their OC, so they've been totally cool going air raid for 20 years. It would be hilarious if Sooner fans were pining for the wishbone in an alternate scenario.

For some reason Campbell doesn't do it for me. I don't know how he would handle being in the fish bowl here. He hasn't ever beat Cockeyes.
Why does not beating the Cockeye matter? He took one of the worst teams in the Big 12 and made them one of the best teams in the Big 12. I'd think that'd carry much more weight than beating the Cockeye.

Having said that, it's probably a pointless conversation. All Campbell has to do is talk to his AD to find out what a shit show this place can be. So I don't see that one happening.

The one idea that I could see is promoting Chins and blowing up the offensive side.

Because when you play in the B1G you need to play a certain way to win those games. The fact he had a more talented team this year and got piss pounded is a huge red flag to me. I wouldn't say a death nail, but a red flag none the less.

Why are you against Chins? I am not over the moon for him, but I see a lot of very good things IMO.

He's an above average, but not great DC whose coaching network largely overlaps with Wood River Bill Jennings. Him or Chadwell would be the most Nebraska-y things to do

I feel like in that scenario it's the same as keeping Frost. so no thanks on Campbell in that context.

We've been running spread for 15 years excluding one Tanner Lee season, and that was still pass happy. Has done nothing significant.

Chadwell has never coached at this level and likely has very limited connections in major college football. He's honestly more of an OC candidate than he is a head coach candidate

I just think that CFB hiring is a much bigger crap shoot than anyone wants to admit. Look at the 2018 silly season https://athlonsports.com/college-football/grading-college-footballs-head-coach-hires-2018. 8/10 the top 10 are gone or going to be gone this year, and Mullen seat is getting very, very hot. The number of guys who last longer than 5 seasons in P5 is a pretty small list and even if you do last, you can even be like Patterson and get canned despite having your statue outside the stadium.

I'm totally prepared for Frost to pull a Lane, go to some G5, rip it up, and end up at an ACC+Pac 12 program in 4-5 years.

Unless Frost can find another Milton, I don't think he will be ripping up anything.

1. There’s at least 10 better candidates then him
2. I really don’t think he’s that great anyway. His defense was better this year but it really isn’t that great. It’s always annoyed me how he can’t get off the field on 3rd downs. Happened again last Saturday.

Chin’s defenses have been good enough to keep us in the games, but I would not necessarily think that’s good enough to mean he can coach an entire team.

I feel like the two options here are 1. go full Saban and sell your soul to the top option (not 100% sure who that would even be though, but Urban Meyer is probably the closest thing to a slam dunk. Venables is also interesting, but I don't know if Nebraska is the job that makes him move) or 2. try to hit the lotto ticket. I think Chadwell is the lotto ticket for this cycle, but we won't know for 5 more years who that is.

Florida, top 5 job probably, and gets no. 1-2 candidate every time it's open.

Zook, 3 seasons. 8-5, 8-5, 7-5
Meyer, obviously successful but last season there was trending down pretty bad
Muschamp, 4 seasons. 7-6, 11-2, 4-8, 7-5
McElwain, 3 seasons. 10-4, 9-4, 4-7
Mullen, 4 seasons so far. 10-3, 11-2, 8-4, 4-4 (so far, and seat heating up)

Despite the Mullen memes early this year, that dude is going to have to fire Grantham this off-season and hope for next year to save his job. Generally being an ultra-weirdo increasingly each week this season. 1/5 success rate.
