2024-25 NCAA Tournament Bracketology/Bubble Watch

Is the hating each other a personality thing? A bad apple thing? Something else?

A bit of both. Lots of clashing personalities

I'm just spitballing here:

1. Gary and Brice are best friends and underpaid - I'd be resentful too.
2. You add 2 Mormons (Meah / Woorster) and a Muslim - I feel like that might be a weird dynamic
3. Essegian is a freaking hardcore Evangelical - I grew up Evangelical, I bet he's easily the most obnoxious asshole on team.
4. Hoiberg Junior and Morgan are normal Midwestern Catholic Dudes who just want to have a good time.
5. The True Freshman from Wisconsin is apparently annoying as Fuck.
6. Ulis is always asking everyone about spreads and O/U numbers, while dodging giant Italian guys outside the arena.
7. Griffith can't see without Goggles

- He’s not wrong
- they need one or both, wouldn’t hurt to have somebody with a basketball mindset either in the athletic department or at 1890
- everything I’ve been told confirms this, go back and listen to what Andrew Morgan said before the Illinois game in January for example, basically says it without saying it directly
- definitely going to be a rebuild regardless. Would have to find some legitimate dudes this offseason or it probably gets ugly fast next year. Do you want to start from square one with a new coach or do you want to commit to Fred and go all in. Or do you choose door 3 and let Fred flounder for next year and just pull the plug when it almost inevitably goes bad Dannen and Co will have to decide what they want basketball to be at Nebraska. Are they all the way in or going to be halfway in and halfway out. If you’re going to commit to Fred, he needs to be given every possible resource to succeed.

Unrelated, Turd wanted to fire Fred two seasons ago before they scraped their way to .500 to end the season. Somebody representing Nebraska was calling agents as late as January of 2023.

Thanks for the insights...Why do you think Turd and so many fans want or wanted Hoiberg gone? I get that his start was dreadful, but let’s be honest—it’s Nebraska basketball, and only giving a coach four years to fix it feels shortsighted. Maybe people expected instant success because of what he did at ISU? Hoiberg had five very successful years there, so I don't think he just forgot how to coach. There has to be more to it.

I don’t buy the idea that NU’s basketball struggles are simply due to hiring bad coaches. It’s part of it—but if coaching was the only issue, someone would’ve broken through by now. The bigger problem seems to be structural—whether it’s a lack of donor support, consistent recruiting pipelines, or the challenge of attracting elite talent to Lincoln.

Plus, the Big Ten is a brutal basketball conference. You’re asking a coach to rebuild a historically weak program while competing against some of the best and most well-funded teams in the country.

At the same time, I am pissed because I've seen flashes of what this program could be. When you see schools with similar or worse basketball traditions (like Northwestern) make tournament runs, it pisses me off as to why Nebraska can’t seem to get over the hump. Fixing NU basketball probably requires more than just swapping out coaches—it seems more complex than that.

Don’t have the alumni base of other B1G and SEC schools so that’s one issue. Going to the same heavy hitter donors for basketball after already going to them time and again for football (which is a lot), volleyball, and stadium renovations (creating fatigue). Not to mention Omaha donors who help fund football are giving to Pickle Smoochers for b-ball seems like the perfect storm of suck.

Everyone here supports the team. Everyone wants Nebraska to win. But why should Nebraska basketball fans want a coach that doesn't prepare and put the team in the best position to execute at the highest level?

Key word - prepare. There are many local and small college coaches that have been to practices throughout the Hoiberg era and he does absolutely nothing in practices/workouts. He's the one that gets to stand up/walk the sideline during games. That's it.

I promise you every high level program's head coach does more than what Hoiberg does on a daily basis to help the team develop, prepare and execute in game situations. Assistants are assistants for a reason. They can't do all the work themselves. Give me a head coach that wants to be here and work.

Nate Loenser does all the heavy lifting. Hoiberg does nothing. IYKYK.

HA! Little do you know. Every HS coach in Lincoln and the metro knows this is true. Along with many small college coaches in Nebraska and Cockeye.

There are current players who believe that certain assistants are leaving this year due to this. Will I say what players? No. But you can certainly figure it out if you look at the roster.

I don't know if any of this is true or not, but I wouldn't take anything WestOSker says seriously. He wants Fred gone in the worst way and only shows up when things are bad.

Oh I know, he is a complete jackass. I don't think he would be happy if they were to win tonight and Sunday.

I don't think it is exactly out of the ordinary, you know, for assistant coaches to be running certain drills and doing some game planning. I was watching Court of Gold recently and the assistant coach for Canada was running scout and the defense. What a novelty!

What kind of responses is this clown getting to his dumbass post? It’s completely normal for assistants to run drills. Hell, I know for a fact that Pitino used to sit way up in the bleachers at Louisville and bark instructions at his players through a microphone. They couldn't even see him, only hear him.

To say Fred does nothing is a wild accusation. Does Loenser do a lot? Absolutely. The other two assistants do less than nothing. The staff definitely does need work, but everything I’ve been told is Fred does offense and Nate does defense and a lot of drill work. Loenser might as well be the associate head coach, yes, but he’s been a G-League head coach and has a background in player development. To say Fred doesn’t do nothing, that’s absurd, but as somebody who has been in multiple D1 practices across the country, head coaches aren’t running every second of every practice.

Keep in mind Fred also has a damn pacemaker and isn’t going to get too fired up or worked up in a practice.

How does that poster feel about Rhule making every move this offseason so he can micromanage from a far and have to do not much, if any actual coaching?

Not a 1 to 1 comparison but Nebraska Basketball would sometimes start practice under Miles before Miles even showed up.

How do you think assistant coaches show they have what it takes to become a head coach? They do shit like run drills and run scout in practice

I appreciate your response and thoughts on it. I know he is just putting stuff out there to paint Fred as this worthless HC.

The fact that he thinks assistants running drills and parts of practice is some knock on an HC is ironic, honestly. This poster on Tater Island thinks he is the smartest guy when it comes to basketball.
