2024-25 NCAA Tournament Bracketology/Bubble Watch

If they win the last 2, they’d make it.

The more likely scenario is that they lose out and miss the B1G Tournament.
I feel like we would still need some help after that to get in. No surprise conference tournament winners that reduce the at-large bids, AND need some other teams that are on the bubble to lose a game that they shouldn’t have.

It all depends on the other bubbble teams. NU still has a strong resume and it would only get better winning on the road at OSU.

This guy has been pretty spot on.

Is there any chance at all to make it in now?

Sure win the last 2 and we are in. Problem is the way we are playing, we might not win another game, or maybe just Cockeye at home. Going to take some bad playing by tOSU to beat them, which is possible.

The way this team rolls, I'd expect a great win at tOSU, then an absolute laydown against Cockeye to keep us out.

That guy is a dipshit. No chance he gets fired
Yea somehow I doubt it comes down to a game against a crappy Minnesota team. I highly doubt he gets fired this year (unless there is something else going on inside the program that would warrant it that has yet to come public) but I would certainly think it would be NCAA tournament or your fired IF there was any such talk within the department.

We have a handful of Q1 wins but we’re about to have two Q3 losses with this loss and with USC getting beat by 20 today. Rutgers is right in the line of being a Q3 loss too. Not good.

We win the last 2 I think we play in Dayton. We lose one it’s over.

Posted on Tater Island. Any further information or clarification, on any of the below? @Cowboy Kermit

Thanks.

Gary Sharp had some interesting comments this morning.

*Everything is on the table this offseason
*Thinks they should hire GM and top level recruiter
*Said this team hates each other (odd?)
*Fred can increase his NIL by wooing donors
*This is going to be a rebuild. Dannen needs to eval if he trusts the current guys or if he needs to go outside the program for help.

Something certainly seems wrong.

Dannen doesn’t have much of a track record when it comes to hiring basketball coaches, so it’s hard to predict what direction he might take. Extending Jacobsen at Northern Cockeye and firing Hopkins at UW without making a hire doesn’t give us much insight into his decision-making process.

As for wooing donors, that’s an interesting angle. Is it that Fred hasn’t engaged with them enough, or do they want a bigger say in the program’s direction? If fundraising is becoming a bigger factor, that could hint at some larger strategic shifts.

And yeah, you have to wonder about Fred’s motivation at this point. If he’s burned out or just doesn’t see a path forward, stepping away wouldn’t be shocking. Citing health or personal reasons would certainly be a way to exit gracefully. Either way, this offseason could get really interesting.

Yeah, I kind of feel that way as well. I feel like we are going to get that done and then pull a Nebraska and lose in Dayton. Just when our hopes come back.... Bam! Another bad loss.

I've been on the keep Fred bandwagon up until this point. Program doesn't seem to have any life in it right now though. Next season looks kind of bleak. Obviously let the remainder of the season play out but it might be time to move on from Fred.

If we win this game & lose the next one, does this get the monkey off our back because we won a game that's technically part of the NCAA tournament, or we still winless because we've never advanced past the round of 64?
I believe this does count as a tournament game, they were crediting those who won those last year with tournament wins anyway (Colorado)

I think it won't matter as this team looks destined for an 0-2 finish at this point, along with a limp into the Big Ten tourney where they go 1 and done.

However, it would be the most Nebraska Basketball thing ever to see this team miraculously get into the tournament and actually win that first Husker NCAA tourney game despite being arguably the worst Husker Tournament team of the last 35 seasons. I say that because I don't remember any other Danny Nee or even the one Tim Miles tourney team playing stretches of AWFUL basketball for a month straight.

And I also say that because this team has showed at times that they can be a formidable tourney caliber team when the following happens:

- Gary drives to the hoop
- Essegian makes open shots
- Berke is at full strength and full speed
- Morgan doesn't turn the ball over in stupid fashion

Because Brice Williams will get his.

Meah is role player
Wooster is a role player
Hoiberg is a role player

The team sucks when Gary settles for threes, Essegian doesn't make threes, Berke is a pussy, and Morgan plays as dumb as his haircut/facial hair combo looks.

Because then Meah being role player, Wooster being a role player, and Hoiberg being a role player absolutely does nothing to supplement the team.

Problem for Nebraska is Essegian, Berke, and Morgan have only brought it all the same night a handful of games.

Dannen made a pair of basketball firings and a pair of hires at Tulane. Fired Ed Conroy and then hired Mike Dunleavy Sr who went 24-69 in three seasons, then hired Ron Hunter to replace him.

- He’s not wrong
- they need one or both, wouldn’t hurt to have somebody with a basketball mindset either in the athletic department or at 1890
- everything I’ve been told confirms this, go back and listen to what Andrew Morgan said before the Illinois game in January for example, basically says it without saying it directly
- definitely going to be a rebuild regardless. Would have to find some legitimate dudes this offseason or it probably gets ugly fast next year. Do you want to start from square one with a new coach or do you want to commit to Fred and go all in. Or do you choose door 3 and let Fred flounder for next year and just pull the plug when it almost inevitably goes bad Dannen and Co will have to decide what they want basketball to be at Nebraska. Are they all the way in or going to be halfway in and halfway out. If you’re going to commit to Fred, he needs to be given every possible resource to succeed.

Unrelated, Turd wanted to fire Fred two seasons ago before they scraped their way to .500 to end the season. Somebody representing Nebraska was calling agents as late as January of 2023.

Is the hating each other a personality thing? A bad apple thing? Something else?
