I'm surprised you took that long of a mourning period after seeing no SEC teams in the championship.
My almost 16 year old Huck (50% Irish Setter / 50% Black Lab) was just prescribed carpofren. Basically doggy ibuprofen. Immediate change and he was chasing balls again, and very waggy. 3 days later vet called to tell us to stop giving it because of the liver test. Sucks to see the potential and then have it taken away.I have two labs, a 15 month old and an 11.5 year old, who is getting arthritic. The vet prescribed librela for the older one, and it really, really helped. He is still stiff legged, but the inflammation must be much reduced as he just seems to enjoy life again. He plays with the young dog (his great grandnephew) jumps into the car, jumps on the bed. He likes long walks again.
I had another lab that made it to 14 before arthritis basically incapacitated him and I had to have him put down. He was so much a part of the family. I held him when the vet did it; didn't want him to be alone. His ashes are in an urn in the family room.
I worked in London for a few years and rented a house foir the family in Berkshire, a little way west of Windsor. The house had a big, wooded lot; the day we moved in my 14 year old daughter was out exploring in the back and came running in, saying in the backyard there was a graveyard where children were buried. Sure enough, there was a clearing that had 8-9 real headstones with children's first names engraved on them, and birth and death years suggesting whoever was buried in them was between 4 and 14. I called my landlord; it turned out to be the cemetery for the family's pet dogs and cats. That was elaborate.
You’ve given that dog the perfect life.My boy turns 16 next month. He's still rocking it, but can barely see and hear. Vet last week put him on a med which turned him into an old puppy for a few days. It was a doggy ibuprofin, to go along with his morning and eve CBD chews. He was running after balls again, wagging, playing, it was wonderful. Then the vet called. Tests came back and liver numbers weren't good. We had to take him off the med until another test can be done later this month.
@djw004 hate to hear about your pup. It's getting closer and closer for my boy, so just trying to enjoy him all I can while I can.
I haven't put down a dog in a long time. My last one climbed the fence and died in my neighbors yard at an old age. I was 12 years old when I had to put down my dog myself after it was hit by a car, and no grown ups were around. So knowing when it comes will be a tough decision and one made with consultation from my vet friend.
You are so right dogs are awesome. I've never not had one. My almost 16 year old is named Huck. He has paddled 1,000s of miles with me. We did a 70 mile river trip when he was 6 months old, and 860 miler source to sea when he was 1 years old. He grew up in a canoe, and was the best co pilot I've known in a canoe. He's too old now for rivers, but hoping to get him out on a lake paddle overnight when it warms up this Spring.

Setting your shitty take on dogs aside, agreed here. B1G team's fans don't understand this. I'd rather see tOSU win than TN, or Michigan rather than Bama any day. I can't stand tOSU, but the hate for other SEC teams is stronger always. The fans chanting SEC are from teams like Vandy or Miss State. SEC fans from teams that compete are the most misunderstood out there. If you were rooting against an SEC team not named Georgia, I was right there with you.I am not a conference jock rider.
Mostly ‘miss’.
I am good with that. It’s insanity to think you or I or anybody is going to agree on everything. We’re still pals.Setting your shitty take on dogs aside, agreed here. Gorgeous pup. Sorry for your loss brotherPhoto of Huck, but isn't me in pic haha. This pic they grabbed is my buddy in front of boat with Huck on the Buffalo National Scenic River a year before thru paddle of the Alabama Scenic River Trail. Anyway, cool to wake up this morning and see the post from the ASRT.
