What to look for/preparing for your dog’s death

Well, been a rough week. Last last week I put my lab down and today we put our Husky down. Terrible, Terrible, Terrible feeling. I cried like a damn baby when my lab went. Still a strange feeling not seeing them when I get home now.

Deepest condolences brother. I can’t imagine the pain you’re feeling, though I hope you know that you gave them an incredible, love-filled life.

Sorry for you brother. My Boxer turns 7 this year. It's definitely hit me a few times knowing that I'll be lucky to get 4-5 more years with him. Strange feeling seeing your dogs face start to turn grey. The real shitty part is when he does pass my daughter will be around 7-8 years old so I can't imagine how hard it will hit her then.

Sorry brother. Thats awful. I guess I was lucky, my 14 year old bulldog went in his sleep. Not sure i could handle having to watch putting my dog down.

Hope things get better for you.

I've got a 13-year-old pup that I think is getting pretty close. Absolutely love the dog...we've had him longer than we have had our kids!

But I also am REALLY struggling with the concept of paying someone to kill my dog. But, at the same time, I'm not sure I have it in me to "old Yeller" him either. We live on an acreage, so I dream of talking him for one long, last walk, sitting down with him for a bit, thanking him and putting him out of his misery. Anyone had experience doing it themselves?

No shot in hell I could do that. When the time does come, hopefully many many many years from now, I’ll have a vet come to our home and let him see us as he goes out. Fucking love that little guy

Having a vet do it wasnt that bad. They put an iv in, and then an injection that puts them to sleep. My lab was comfortable and it was painless. He just laid his head down and went to sleep. Our Husky was about the same. The hours and minutes leading up to it were the worst.

When I did my lab the appointment was around 4:30 and I had made the appointment in the morning. So I sat around all day with him and just cried most of the day. I haven't had that type of emotional response since I was really young. It crushed me, he was my buddy and he just loved the shit out of me. I was the only one he'd listen to if I were in sight.

Yesterday's wasn't nearly as bad because I think the first one got all of it out of me. Pretty weird today not having to water or feed them. Backyard just feels empty.

No fucking way I could have put a gun to their head and pulled that trigger. If it were something that needed to happen in the moment, maybe, but not in these two circumstances.

I always go back and forth on getting my childhood dog tattooed. I’ve seen great ones but seen absolutely shitty onesi
Had planned on it for a long time, but other things got in the way. My brother in law, sister in law, wife, and mother in law, all had one done by the same lady, so I figured that was the best situation I could be in.
